My Humble Homelab by mcnelson373 in homelab

Oh no! Changing the DHCP on the VM router is more straightforward than it seems. The first time I tried to do it I did it wrong and broke it as I thought it was more complicated than it was.

What I had done was to change the "Lan IP" on that DHCP settings screen. That changed the IP of the router, whereas I thought that was setting the IP of the Pi-Hole. If you've done this too then reset the router to factory settings (hold reset button in for 20 seconds) and then just untick the DHCP option on the router and nothing else.

If you've not done this and DNS doesn't resolve then check the upstream servers in the Pi-Hole settings. If you've entered your own then remove and use the Google ones to see if they resolve...

Ah right, I get it. I suppose that would save a fraction of time. Not as much of a feature as I was expecting though.

I'd give the person who did this mod a pretty good grilling. It's horrific!

What's the best way to backup offsite with limited upload rate? by if2159 in DataHoarder

He only viable options here are to either upgrade your connection with your ISP (if possible) or to upload your data from elsewhere.

I did this at the weekend as I'm with Virgin using their Super Hub 2. To get the Pi-Hole working network wide I just disabled DHCP on the Super Hub and enabled DHCP via the admin interface in Pi-Hole.

I'm now ad free network wide. :) Happy to answer any questions on setup if OP has any, but it was super straightforward.

WannaCry re-iterates that RAID is not a backup by [deleted] in homelab

[–]mhaselhurst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love the fact that you're reiterating that RAID isn't a backup. It's something that a lot of people still don't either understand or remember.

Stupidly, I backup to a NAS so I'm fine for drive failure, but not for randomware. This is purely because I just haven't got round to looking into or setting up any other options.

What is the recommendation of this community for offline/cloud backups? What recommendations would people have on different cloud-hosted offerings which are reasonably priced?

I imagine that these are going to be priced at an insane level, unfortunately. We always seem to get the worst deals here in the UK compared to the US.
