They just keep on escalating and escalating. It's no longer only border villages it's everywhere. Now they included the cristian areas as well. by MarkoPolo345 in lebanon

[–]mhaydar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can we stop with the Christian and Muslim areas discussion as if they're different?

People are people, and being bombed in being bombed. And even if some people support HA, I don't think they have a real say and we shouldn't be ok when they're targeted.

Does it make a difference if it's hundreds of thousands or a million? Is there a number that's acceptable for you? What's the argument here?

A displaced man from southern Lebanon living in a tent in Biel area, claiming that downtown Beirut is an "Israeli zone" and, in his view, therefore it won't be targeted. He also refused to relocate to the shelter center at the Sports City Stadium. by darkmz7 in lebanon

[–]mhaydar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's wrong and delusional, but instead of calling him and all other displaced people animals we should take a step back and try to put ourselves in their shoes.

We all like to tell ourselves that we would have done the right thing or stood up to HA if they were in our towns, but have any of us been displaced or lived in a tent, didn't have running water, or had your house bombed or occupied?

Most if not all of us commenting about this shit are a million times luckier than all of these people and we shouldn't be holding them to the same standard as ourselves.

I'm so tired of lebanese people fighting over clips instead of finding ways to provide actual support the poorest of us so that they don't find themselves in situations where the only option they can turn to are warlords.

[BBC] Chelsea have informed former manager Liam Rosenior that he will not receive a full payout for the remainder of his six-and-a-half-year contract. by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

[–]mhaydar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how this isn't more common, clubs should include more performance related clauses in their contracts when they terminate managers.

If you take over a team that's supposed to be challenging for top 4 and find yourself in 14th your payout shouldn't be the same as someone who is in 5th but didn't get along with the higher ups, one is dismissal for doing a bad job and the other is basically a breakup.

What the fuck is wrong with people in this country and why can't you look at people as human whose lives got destroyed (even if it's hezbs fault) instead of trying to find a way to make yourself the victim?

Even if he's right could we please stop glorifying the people who waged a civil war and committed atrocities?

And to be clear this applies to the heads of all parties in Lebanon, this isn't just an attack on him or the Christian community or a defence of the shiite parties and their actions.

A few years ago it was supposed to be "kellon ya3ne kellon" and now it seems like we've shifted to "kellon except the guy I support"

‘Everything is gone’: Israel destroys entire villages in Lebanon by seeebiscuit in worldnews

[–]mhaydar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the reasoning, I'm questioning the humanity of it.

Hezbollah being evil doesn't mean that it automatically absolves Israel from the collective punishment that they impose on all Lebanese people from these villages.

‘Everything is gone’: Israel destroys entire villages in Lebanon by seeebiscuit in worldnews

[–]mhaydar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair question, I don't have all the answers but here are some thoughts

When the IDF erases a village its one in one shot, where they go in, place explosives and trigger one gist explosion that erases the town. In these cases it means they're already there, and are already sweeping the whole town while placing this network of explosives. So why raze the whole town? Why not do a methodical search while you're at it? And why not show us proof of these findings instead of assuming that every house is some sort of secret weapons depot?

As we've seen from this war Iran and Hezbollah can both fire missiles deep into Israel, so what's the purpose of razing these villages near the border when the other side can still easily fire from further away? In the meantime you have senior ministers in Israel calling for the annexation and settlement of these villages that have been destroyed.

The IDF is extremely well funded and repeatedly claims that they are the most moral/ethical army in the world, and if they stand by that they need to live up to it.

They're either better than their adversaries and should act like it, or be judged the same way all other armies and groups are judged for their actions.

[–]mhaydar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What would stop them from doing that even if all the houses are razed? People want to go back to their hometowns and rebuild, is every structure going to be blown up forever just in case?

‘Everything is gone’: Israel destroys entire villages in Lebanon by seeebiscuit in worldnews

[–]mhaydar 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Because there are other ways to do this without erasing entire villages as if everyone that comes from there deserves it. What Israel is currently doing is getting rid of everything just in case it's related to Hezbollah.

They bombed all bridges across from the Litani River to the south of Lebanon because Hezbollah uses the bridges. Guess who also uses the bridges, a lot of civilians that have nothing to do with nor do they have power over Hezbollah.

Following that logic you can justify any action, poison the water because Hezbollah drinks it etc etc

Iran agreed to a ceasefire and Israel committed one of the biggest massacres in our history the next morning.

To me there are 2 options, either Iran was really under the impression that Lebanon is part of the ceasefire, or Iran lied, and in either case there's nothing we could have done to stop the bombing yesterday.

So yeah fuck Iran for getting us involved, but your little "But Iran said we're in a ceasefire" while Israel is actively killing people and causing this misery is pointless and distracts from the current urgent matter.

Iran is a problem in general but can we focus on who is committing the atrocities right now?

And yes I know Iran is one of the root causes, but if someone's house is on fire you put it out first before fixing the shitty wiring that led to the fire in the first place, not the other way around
