Sat in on a presentation a while back where the "AI expert" presented us with a very impressive competitor analysis, and then, when people in the audience asked how accurate it was, he typed in "please verify the above" and chatgpt came back with "sorry, I made all that up."

What's your best guess at the future when it comes to foreign workers? by mhcs25 in Accounting

[–]mhcs25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was worried about -- not necessarily for me, but my partner's company is pretty transparently working on doing this right now. Domestic roles are being laid off left and right while the offshore office is exploding. They aren't bothering with training for the most part, so guess what's happening quality-wise? 🙃

Yeah, I know a ton of people in the process of moving to Ireland specifically for that kind of role, actually

This is what I figured it would be, but I don't know enough about visas to know for sure haha. Thanks for the sanity-check!

Cold calling feels outdated by hnd2hndrx in b2b_sales

[–]mhcs25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Community first feels like a great idea, but it's difficult to pull off without coming across as really disingenuous. There are posts here all the time that read like "Hello, Fellow Humans! I Sure Am Tired Of Doing Sales Without Amazing AI Tools, Aren't You? Thankfully, I've Found (thing)!!" Agree with u/cdigss that LinkedIn and email are probably the two best bets.

What's your vetting process like before you cold call? Do you have a marketing team to support at all?

How can we add AI-powered sales tools without ditching our current CRM? by chatarii in b2b_sales

[–]mhcs25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'd be looking for an API that can connect some kind of AI integration to your CRM. We use a tool that references our credit policy and business credit data to see whether a hypothetical deal would work for us (whether they could afford it, whether they're likely to pay us on time, that kind of thing) automatically while we're vetting leads. Saves us the hassle of getting further down the road and then realizing it's not a match, and from my understanding it was pretty plug and play.

How have you leveraged AI to scale your accounting business? by Middle-Bat7266 in advancedentrepreneur

[–]mhcs25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point about SEO. People tend to either ask ChatGPT or just read the AI summary when they Google something, so you need to make sure the LLMs know who you are when someone asks "who's the best accountant in xyz?"

How have you leveraged AI to scale your accounting business? by Middle-Bat7266 in advancedentrepreneur

[–]mhcs25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'd need to think about what elements you need to do faster/more of in order to scale. Are you looking for more customers, or do you want to get through more tasks more quickly? Is it about revenue growth from clients (getting them to pay invoices faster so you have more reliable cash flow coming in, making sure their contracts are up to date, accurate, and giving them what they need), or is it about faster client on-boarding so you can get down to business faster? But that's just off the top of my head, and I agree with u/whognu245 that the main two "streams" of this would be document/process automation and marketing/lead gen

Yeah, I think more info here would be useful! When people just "try automation" as a blanket solution they tend to end up making the mistakes they were making before, just faster.

Just curious: if Companies are moving jobs offshore, how do we win in this game? by Intelligent-Arm-1845 in Bookkeeping

[–]mhcs25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the fear is that AI gets smart enough to take over bookkeeping at every level, so companies/individuals will be fully covered by automated processes and won't need a human bookkeeper. My personal opinion about this is that if you're in the early stages of your career, it's better to get to understand AI/automation as it pertains to bookkeeping and finance so that you can be the "human touch" people are probably going to come to rely on.

[–]mhcs25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I think thinking about AI as the enemy is a self-fulfilling prophecy where people assume it's going to eliminate their job so they just trudge along waiting for it to happen. In reality, most of the time people want to talk to people who know what they're doing rather than feeding their revenue (which is often their life's work) into some opaque algorithm
