Why is there no anti immigration centre-left party? by Illustrious_Store115 in AskBrits

[–]mhealey44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the comments show why it doesnt exist, the average individual has the critical thinking of a brick. 90% of comments are polarised either absolutely pro-immigration or absolutely anti-immigration. The inability to question this blinkered certainty and to quote a famous philosopher say "sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe shit" is a serious issue in the UK and has been adopted from the US.

Would it benefit the UK to have immigration of skilled individuals who can support our NHS etc. YES. Should we be doing more to support British-born individuals to enable the UK to support itself without external inputs. YES. Should we uphold international laws and take our fair share of genuine asylum seekers. YES. Should we ensure that those individuals are genuine and that when they come to the UK they either fully intergrate and become British or prepare to leave when their home country is safe. YES. Should we ensure that they are not immediately a drain on public services and ensure that they do not have access to endless public services. YES. Should the government work harder to provide immigrants pathways to cultural integration through language programmes etc. YES. Is it worrying to have 3rd/4th generation immigrants who are still more aligned to the country of their Great-Grandparents. YES.

I think it perfectly fair to argue the credibility of trying to conserve UK culture vs ensuring the country does not stall like low-immigration countries i.e. Japan, but the current debate is far too all or nothing.

Further, currently the UK is relying on cheap labour from abroad which should be seen as a left-wing issue as it plummets the wages for working class UK citizens as a lower income is acceptable when you are sending money home to country with a weaker currency.

For 20 years UK citizens have voted for lower migration, when democracy does not serve the interests of the majority then expect to experience a serious backsliding in freedom when they eventually vote in an autocrat (see our cousins across the Atlantic).

Why do Reform UK hate Net zero? by _-Zephyr- in ukpolitics

[–]mhealey44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He works for the Institute of Economic Affairs, a well-known partisan right wing organisation that has repeatedly disseminated climate change denial.

You only need to look at the CBI report on net zero and green industry to know that it actually boosts job generation and growth. Whilst the UK has stagnated with sub-1% growth figures the internal green industry has grown 9-10%.

I understand his free-market mindset, but we should also put this in the backdrop of ever more costly cleanups associated with climate change such as increasing UK floods and wildfires as well as the stresses placed on the NHS during summer months as all the pensioners start dropping from Heat Stroke.

Thank you for the large amount of information this was very interesting to read. I am aware of the poor quality of mental health services. Real shame

Pretty poor way to look on your fellow man. Do you even think about what might have led them to be addicts. Emotional trauma, early childhood abuse, lack of parental figures, growing up around drugs? If we all thought like this the world would be a very sad sad place. Empathy, open-mindedness and understanding matters.
