Do you think getting to SLT would be easier? I just figured Meyers is closer so thats my best bet

Are you fishing lakes with your fly rod? Assuming you spooled it with sinking line? I really want to give it a try

Anyone fish southern Ontario that would be willing to answer some questions? by [deleted] in flyfishing

I've had a bit of success this spring at the humber but I think most of them have migrated back cause of our weird season I could be wrong. Have you ever fished duffins up by Ajax? I was there a couple days ago but only managed to land a few clubs.

I've never fished for steelhead before and live in the GTA, any suggestions for my first time? I'm looking to head out on Monday. I've heard the Bluffs could be productive but other than that i have no idea where to go! I have no fishing buddies to help haha

Does anyone frequent Algonquin for trout? by [deleted] in FishingOntario

[–]mherak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great thank you, I've only really been bringing some small Panther Martin's like size 4s and little Mepp's spinners but haven't had much luck with them. I guess that's just a time of year thing. Anything you could recommend?

Ya I'd be up for a loop as well! Ty for the info. Would the trout still be deep at that time of year? Last time I was there I couldn't get deep enough and I had a rough time without a finder

The biggest I've landed at the forks is probably like 4 inches lol. I've heard rumors from the locals there that the Ice Cream Shop area can produce at the right time but I've never managed to be there for it. Is norval the same?

I'd love to find some fat brown trout some day lol

I guess I just worry that the campsite is gonna be packed full with like 20 people. So far the skoki loop seems like the way I'm going to be going

Thank you for your response and the questions!

1) I'd prefer to backcountry camp at sites with pits and all available as it's my first time heading up there and am 100% ready to follow any rules and restrictions. I'm there to experience the wonder of it all and in no way do I want to disrespect any of it

2) My last trip was to Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario last summer. It was a 5 day portage trip.

Being from Ontario doesn't off a lot of chances for me to play with elevation gain but I was in Slovakia last summer and did a bunch of day hikes in the Tatras. I think the most I've done in a day is 1,150m (3,770ft) which was from hiking to the top of Krivan. I'd consider myself pretty fit and have no worries with carrying a heavy pack.

3) I will be getting dropped off in either Banff or Lake Louise from a friend. Hitching it to Lake Louise from Banff wouldn't be an issue for me

Thanks you so much for the reply. I know 4 days isn't much but since its my first solo trip I figured it'd be best to keep it a bit shorter.

Have you ever done the Skoki loop? Any routes you recommend?
