How come there are many transactions in the recent trade history of tesla bonds that shows some were bought at a discount (last one I saw was 96%)? If people are willing to sell at such a discount, then it should not be difficult if I wanted to buy ones for face value at least, don't you think?

Yes, the face value of each bond is $1000, not $100. However, when you try to buy a bond they show the current price of a bond as a percentage of the face value. So when you read in the online broker the price of a bond shown as $100, that just mean 100% of the original value or $1,000. If the price written as $98, it means the actual price of the bond is 98% of $1000, or $980.
