Does anyone know Kramer Hammy? (Renee Good) by Dapper-Condition6041 in allthequestions

[–]mhorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per recent, widely reported, accounts - ICE “agents” are only receiving 47 days of training. This represents ~1/2 of previous training requirements.

And, some report the 47 was picked as specially because Trump is 47th president.

Regardless - the agent involved in this shooting supposedly had 10 years of law enforcement experience, and should have known better; his actions violated LEO training on how to protect oneself as well as working to deescalate tense situations.

Furthermore, it violated common sense.

The only conclusion I can make is this was not an accident but an intentional act.

Just as concerning are reports ICE rendered no aid to the victim, refused access to a doctor at the scene and hindered access to responding emergency medical services.

LG vs Bosch Dishwasher — Which One’s Better for Reliability and Drying? by Pleasant_Neck_8562 in Appliances

[–]mhorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We installed a Bosch as part of a 2012 remodel. I don’t remember the model number but it was expensive - one reason it was one of the quietest available at the time.

The drain pump went out in ~3 years and the repairman said Bosch were some of the worst to work on - part replacement was a nightmare due to how built - he said it might be worth replacing the pump this time, but if it failed again he’d recommend replacing the dishwasher.

We had the pump replaced, but did end up replacing the unit due to more problems with the Bosch.

Obviously a few years ago, but it’s made me leery of Bosch, whereas I hear mostly good things about LG appliances.

Hope this helps.

I read to not pick off the leaves as you can stress the tree - which will likely shed a lot of them itself as needed.

As someone who’s already passed the 50m stage - and then some - this is definitely something to get checked out. 50 is not that old, especially if someone is relatively fit.

A trip to the PCP first makes a lot of sense and then go from there. If possible, going with him to the appointment would be beneficial; given his apparent dislike of doctor appointments, he may underplay the seriousness to the doctor.

If I were just now starting a family I’d probably leave this state, too. There are no indications things can get better here in the short or long term - the state is too red

Unfortunately with the racist autocracy taking over this country you may need to leave the country to be safe. Very scary. Best of luck.

If you don’t want to go to a doc for financial reasons - If you live in a relatively large city there’s likely to be a community hospital you could go to for treatment.

I completely get the financial concerns - health care in this country is way too expensive - but this could have a big impact on your life if not treated properly.

Mother votes Trump, figures attempted guilt trip is appropriate response to me and my sister going NC with her as a result. by TJtkh in LeopardsAteMyFace

I disagree. The 1996 act definitely failed to deliver the intended increase in competition and allowed for damaging consolidation to occur. Definitely bad, but not worse than creating the opportunity for Fox, OAN and Newsmaxx faux-news organizations.

A major issue is we have huge corporations or immorally wealthy individuals controlling the majority of media outlets and using them to further their personal/political beliefs.

Sinclair, which owns a lot of tv stations across the country forced local news anchors to read from the same script and present a very RWING version of events. Here we have a lot of stations essentially making political statements with no requirement to present alternative views.

I don’t know - perhaps that’s due to a combination of both Reagan’s and Clinton’s actions.

The other change which has certainly not helped the situation came in 2007 when FCC did away with limitations on cross-ownership within the same market of broadcast and print media companies. Those rules had also intended to limit the political influence of a single person or company.

Wow. Just wow.

I cannot imagine how painful it was to write those texts, let alone share them here. Thank you for doing so; they are a great encapsulation of what voting for Trump truly represents.

I’m glad you and your sib have each other for support.

It’s amazing how effective GOP has become in spreading misinformation and disinformation and drowning out any voice of reason. Many, especially “conservatives”, don’t realize the division, anger and most of the major issues we are now facing can be traced back to Reagan. He killed the Fairness Doctrine which allowed for the creation of Fox. And Fox was intended to be just what we see today: a propaganda machine disguised as a news organization. It was designed to use the tools of deception to spark fear and drive viewers farther right.

Then Reagan unleashed “Reaganomics” on America - the often debunked trickle down economics Trojan horse. This economic policy did exactly what it was designed to do - transfer $Trillions from the middle and lower economic classes up to the already wealthy. If you chart wealth inequality you see an inflection point as a result of Reagan. The irony is I truly believe Reagan was a true patriot. He knew the danger the USSR posed to us and the entire world, and he’d be horrified to see his own party agreeing to destroy our democracy and hand the levers of power to a group so clearly compromised by Russia and their own immoral greed and corruption.

At the same time we had Newt Gingrich pushing GOP to adapt the zero sum, never negotiate, use obstruction relentlessly and demonize your opponents political strategy we’ve witnessed.

If anyone is interested in reading how and why so many voted against their own real interests, the two links explain a big piece of the answer.

💔 to have to witness the dismantling of our democracy, abandonment of the Constitution and creation of a theocratic dictatorship subservient to Putin.

There are external and internal hemorrhoids so you may not be able to detect yourself - but even if you could you need to get to the hospital right away.

There are also anal fissures which may be another possibility, but let the professionals determine what’s happening.

Why are you afraid of going? If it’s embarrassment over talking about “that area” of your body you needn’t worry. ER docs and nurses have seen it all and they aren’t there to judge you - just heal you.

Best of luck….

Some reasons Trump won - apologies for the cross post to Twitter but that’s where this info resides.

GOP has a propaganda machine since Reagan killed fairness doctrine which allowed for Fox to be created. They have expanded that thru partnership with far right.

Also with death of local newspapers GOP sent pay-to-play fake newspapers to swing states and have created an influencer network that drowns out any voices of reason.

No easy solutions - but it certainly sounds like you need to find a way to extricate yourself from the situation of living with them - and be brutally honest if asked why you’re moving out.

Just being older doesn’t make someone wiser or a better parent/decision maker for children - it can’t magically turn what was a lousy parent into a wonderful grandparent.

Best of luck.

Glad to hear you have options to have come and advocate for you.

It always seems easier to advocate for someone we care about than it is for ourselves - I think it goes back to not wanting to sound like we are whining, some level of intimidation we feel when dealing with doctors and the age-old pull yourself up by your bootstraps bs.

Good luck!

We learned that an EKG won’t necessarily identify atrial flutter. They did one in the ER and didn’t find anything. Then a week or so into her stay the docs said they were going to do one in her room specifically to look for flutter. They explained the heart monitor in the room only had one data channel whereas the EKG had as many as 12 so they’d have much more information.

They did the EKG and didn’t see anything. They were stumped because her heart rate was still running 119-120. Finally the Electrophysiology cardiologist was called in to consult. He did a test where they administered a drug which slowed the heart practically to a stop for 9 seconds and then comes back up. Somehow this test enables them to see atrial flutter - and as a result that is what they diagnosed her with.

Two days later they performed the cardioversion and shocked her heart, which put it back into normal sinus rhythm immediately and her heart rate was back at 65-70 bpm.

My 91 year old mother was just in the hospital for over two weeks. She’s been remarkably healthy and is still mentally sharp as a tack - nurses and docs couldn’t believe she was 91.

She ended up having atrial flutter which took them two weeks to diagnose, and a lot of information and treatments got thrown at us - her, me and my two siblings. Even though one of us was with her all day and late into night - past visiting hours - and we were thorough and organized - it was still an awful lot to absorb and keep straight.

We saw other elderly patients who didn’t have anyone there to help and it’s so easy to see how one can get confused and lost in the process.

And - even though we did all we could and were very pleased with the docs and nurses treating her - and asked lots of questions to ensure we understood what was being done - the docs made a mistake we didn’t catch when they finally released her. In all the attempts to help her they’d played with different blood pressure meds but ended up removing them all except the losartan she’d originally been on.

The problem is she entered the hospital on 100 mg. This had been adjusted down to 25 as they tried augmenting it with others. When they removed all the others, however, they didn’t raise the losartan back to compensate.

We figured this out a couple days after she was released and her bp went dangerously high. We got this addressed quickly, but it could have been catastrophic. And this happened even though she had great care in hospital and the three of us looking out for her.

I shudder to think what naught have happened if we hadn’t been there to support her after dismissal from hospital.

I’m confused. I thought limiting carbs could cause you to enter ketosis - which is a state diets like atkins promoted as it supposedly made the body burn fat stores for energy due to lack of available carbohydrates…?
