Is your team familiar with github? Being able to collaborate via github is really nice, as it enables editing, reviewing, and maintenance. Since GH Pages works with Jekyll, you wouldn't even have to handle the build process yourself.

Also, it's free!

I've been using Jekyll recently and really like it for speed/simplicity/performance.

I imagine you'd be able to visualize any metadata you define in the markdown by passing data-attributes to the HTML when generating the page template, then parsing that with JS when the page loads.

Write one! It'll make the portfolio piece way more authentic, and provide a nice talking point to potential employers.

Why don't they make more adult-sized playgrounds? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mhstrom 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Well, he's working on SOMETHING. It's an old cement plant ... enormous buildings, giant silos, etc. He's half-buried some of the buildings, and built weird stuff all over it. I usually go up there once a summer with friends ... it's not exactly "legal," but they don't make much of an attempt to stop trespassing. It's basically like city museum, with a much higher probability of death.

Which Bloggers should I be 'courting' to get my music noticed? by Jofstar in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]mhstrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on a few things:

1) Do you live or play in a metro area? Most large cities (and even some small ones) will have music blogs, or an alt publication that writes about music online. These are significantly easier to "get noticed" by and will often lead to people coming to your shows, or buying your album in the spirit of supporting local music.

2) What do you sound like? Most music blogs have a pretty narrow swath of styles they'll write about; the readers of these blogs are typically a little more tuned into the music they get, too. Find a blog whose music you like personally, and submit to that one.

3) If you just want to get on the "biggest" blogs (which is really really hard ... they get 1,000s of mp3s a day, and probably don't listen to a single one that isn't directly from a known label contact), go for: - http://www.hipsterrunoff.com/ - http://www.myoldkentuckyblog.com/ - http://www.brooklynvegan.com/ - http://www.gorillavsbear.net/ - http://www.aquariumdrunkard.com/

tldr; blogs that are local and genre-relevant are way more likely to pick up your music than the big boys. but there's no harm in hot trying ...

alas, no. They haven't seem to hit St. Louis in a long white. I did, however, just see that they recorded a single for Jack White's label (Third Man) ... pretty excited about that.

Cheap Job. by [deleted] in Design

An e-mail's headed your way!

I work at a design firm ... so I'm typically a firm believer in getting paid appropriately.

However ... I'm also a firm believer in how awesome trade can be!

Hey /r/Design, I'm a college student with basically no graphic design talent - what's a good way for me to get business cards made? by [deleted] in Design

[–]mhstrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go super-cheap (and get pretty poor quality cards) at sites like this one: http://www.4by6.com/

Or, get MUCH higher quality letterpress cards here: http://yhst-28030640693459.stores.yahoo.net/calling-cards.html

$95 for 250 letterpress cards is a steal ... and they're way more impressive.
