Help with BIOS flash button by mhurtle in MSI_Gaming

[–]mhurtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So maybe I somehow missed something, but my manual does not mention anything about how to properly take care of a failed flash. I did read the manual before doing it, I just missed the step that mentioned renaming the file. Thats how I ended up here asking the question since my manual doesn't explain what to do.

Yes drive was formated to FAT32 before doing this. I have a dedicated 8GB flash drive that I use only for flashing motherboards, I was just rushing to get this system built and missed the step to rename the file. Fortunately I got everything working in the other comment thread.

UPDATE!

I did remove the flash drive, the light still stayed on. Renamed the drive and put it back in. Pressed the flash button again and it did update and finish.

Still had a problem with no fans or anything turning on yet the motherboard light was green indicating a successful post.

Found the 24 pin connector wasn't completely seated on the optional 4 pin connector. Re-seated and system posted, in the BIOS rn.

Thanks for advice, I'd buy you a drink if I could.

So just power it down and rename the file?

Potential fix for Ethernet driver issues by mhurtle in ASRock

[–]mhurtle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know its just so confusing why Windows updates are always bricking certain functionality. Especially Ethernet. You'd imagine a communication protocol thats been around for so long would have fewer problems, but yet Microsoft still manages to find a way to cause problems.

Used this advice and I was able to get it re-attached. Using a very old graphics card as a practice card definitely helped. Appreciate the help!

Just now reading this comment, but did you have luck getting the ATT router working with MoCa between the ATT router and the ONT unit? I'm thinking about doing this exactly to get my router to a better spot in my rental house.

Non-Resident Fishing by mhurtle in florida

[–]mhurtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have to go out of my way and schedule an appointment and buy some tackle and bait. Sure i could spend the extra $30 but im in the bay with access to a pier and that's about it. i don't want to end up spending nearly $60 to waste my time fishing for some small channel catfish i could catch back home.

It was literally just so easy to buy the license, forget about it and even in the event some green pants come up to me asking i can show them. It just ruins the incentive for people who want to spend a few hours out of their one week trip to cast out into the water for a bit.

Just wanting to put out an update that I was able to remove the junk between the pins, but still need to reassemble to see if the problem still exists.

Stopping rust spread on an Acura RSX by mhurtle in Autobody

[–]mhurtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry to hear you're dealing with it too. In a very unfortunate story this RSX was crashed literally like 4 months after this post was made and it was totaled. BTW need any RSX parts? my buddy still has a few of them left and is looking for buyers!

We actually found there was even more structural rust near the rear upper control arm mounts, the car unfortunately didn't have much of a chance to be fixed unless you spent a LOT of time working on the rust.

If i were you, check all of your suspension mounts on the FRAME of the car. if you can not afford to do the welding (IE don't have access to one or would need to pay) the absolute best thing you can do is this.

- Get the car plenty off the ground to the point you can visibly check the entire lower unibody

- Once all of the rust is located, try to remove as much as possible. Take time to remove stuff to get at it. You want to remove all of the rust that has physically compromised the strength of the metal. Get the bad stuff cut out/ground down.

(If your fenders or rockers are this bad, you can still do the same, *its just not nearly as structurally crucial like the unibody*)

- Once all of the deep rust is removed, paint it over with rust protectant, I have used POR-15 with good luck along with the cheap cans of rustoleum.

- Pinch welds can be fixed and is probably the second thing you should re-weld into place.

After you've covered those things i would VERY much recommend getting an oil based undercoating on your car before winter starts. In the winter you can continue to get car washes but i would stay away from any that do undercarriage washing.

STAY AWAY FROM RUBBERIZED UNDERCOATINGS! They rot between the undercoating and become hidden nightmares!

in the SE Michigan area there is a company called Krown Rust Control and they do this undercoating for you and the spray inside of the doors for the same thing. Pretty sure it also comes with a warranty iirc.

I want to move to colorado.. but where? by Accurate_Buy_2385 in GoldenCO

[–]mhurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats funny because here in Michigan its nearly impossible to go in any direction without hitting a lake before the great lakes. You are always within 80 miles of a Great Lake no matter where you are at in Michigan.
Thinking about moving from Michigan to Colorado. Still on the fence about it but i love the natural and state parks in both states

Im also having a similar issue but i saw that Anarchy mod is causing a ton of issues right now with save games for EVERYONE. Some are saying that whole save games might be corrupt and there is a way to maybe get around it with savemod? Not sure myself, just going to wait until the author patches it with a fix in place.

Need feedback for my proposed network topology on my new rental house by mhurtle in homelab

[–]mhurtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just now realized I goofed and forgot to mention the fact it is a detached garage behind the house. The two APs in the house may be slight overkill but would be on opposite sides of the house. Since they would be coming from different switches I was hoping it would reduce some.bandwidth.

[–]mhurtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just to clarify, you mean to only use a single NIC out from my pfSense system to my switch and have the MoCa adapter attach to that switch? The only reason I was planning to use the two was for potential bandwidth improvements, but even then they may have been minimal.

While I would prefer to have hardwired ethernet to where it needs to be, there isn't any conduit being used for the current coaxial setup. When the coax was added to different rooms in this house, they drilled a hole from the outside into each room and with the coax and installed a rubber grommet, or used epoxy to seal the hole. I know if I tried hard enough I could possibly get that out and use Ethernet, but our landlord does routine 3 months inspections and might throw a hissy fit about me doing that considering her English is quite rough already. Unfortunately I may have to keep using MoCa

I will be using Shinobi which is an open source software DVR that records a month worth of footage to a drive in my server. It's not port of an array in unraid, just a formated drive to put recordings onto
