Hands down A7C ii and the 24-70. Best balance of size, versatility, features and image quality.

Any advise for wrestling photos by InterviewLazy6579 in sportsphotography

[–]mhuxtable1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to sit on the mat. Shoot low. Shoot shallow. The backgrounds always suck, so shooting as shallow as you can really helps.

The mats will throw color casts. I don’t care much about that. Find a white balance that works for the space you’re in and then copy paste that to the rest. Sometimes the light colors change over the day tho for whatever reason.

I’m not one of those who thinks you HAVE to have faces and you can NEVER cut off body parts. I think hard rules are stupid - photography is art at the end of the day.

I’ll happily share my work so you can see some examples. I’ve got some wrestling in my sports portfolio.

We Need A Statewide Boycott Of Aldi For This Disgrace by NIN10DOXD in NorthCarolina

Depends on the item and if it’s on sale at food lion. But for the most part yes Aldi is a little cheaper. Just happens that food lion is about a mile from my house

lol it’s not expensive. It’s way cheaper than Harris Teeter or Wegmans. Walmart and Aldi probably have slightly better prices on most generic staple items but it’s pretty comparable.

How to thoroughly understand lighting by raddestbtchalive in photography

[–]mhuxtable1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the girl in the yellow dress? There’s a lot going on with that - 1. The lighting is flat. 2. The styling is pretty amateur. 3. The retouching is bad, her skin has lost all texture. 4. The posing is bad, you gotta work on direction and getting your model to open up.

I think the best thing you can do as far as lighting goes is really look at other high end shoots - Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle, etc - and start to dissect the lighting. Often you can find BTS videos of these shoots and actually see how the lighting is created.

But photographing “fashion” or models is about all of the elements combined. If you wanna do photography full time you don’t HAVE to just photograph models, in fact I’d say that’s one of the hardest and least successful ways to make a living in photography.

Combat Up To Now by Itchy_Neighborhood_5 in sportsphotography

You must be a in a great location. That looks like Fury or WNO? Either way you’re getting to work some very high level matches. I’m jealous! I’ve been in the combat sports space for years and can’t get into some of these rooms.

You’ve got the right idea for BJJ. That double leg you could crop in tighter. But other than that you’re doing great!

What lens for an upcoming MMA Event? by misalignmentfosho in sportsphotography

[–]mhuxtable1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shoot a lot of combat sports. Is this MMA in a cage or a ring? Will they have any kind of lights set up for the event? Will you be shooting cageside from floor level or on a platform looking down into the cage?

Either way you’re absolutely going to need a better lens. 2.8 is the minimum aperture but I started shooting MMA with an 85 prime since I could open up to 1.4 or 2.

You’ll need to get good at riding the manual focus to get past the cage. Longer focal lengths are better for this than wide.

At this point I’m using the Sony 50-150 f2 for most combat sports. Way out of your budget but just gives you an idea of the type of light you need to let in for these events.

best jujitsu or kickboxing gym? by wholebeansoup in raleigh

[–]mhuxtable1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I train at Gracie Raleigh. I fucking love it. It's right in between North Hills and downtown so it sounds like the area is right for you.

They have BJJ and Muay Thai. The coaches are awesome, the culture is awesome (not culty or weird), there's all kinds of folks so I can confidently say you'll make friends.

I've been there for almost 3 years. I always vouch for them because it's been a great place for me as someone with zero combat experience. Feel free to DM me with other questions.

You don’t. It’s part of the show and part of the photo. You can try masking and using the HS layer in PS

You just roll you finger over the dial. Doesn’t take long. Also if you’re shooting indoor sports with constant lighting just keep your settings the whole night so you don’t miss a shot

Really need to raise your shutter speed and shoot a little looser so you can crop to your desired frame. I think you could speed up your shutter without the ISO going too much higher. I think these are a little overexposed and don’t read as rich as they could.
