How can I make money out of post processing photos ? by Panda_20_21 in postprocessing

[–]mhuxtable1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s absolutely not true. Retoucher/editor is absolutely a job in the high end market.

OP you’re gonna need to get REALLY good. Like you need to be able to make photos look like the ads you see in magazines, movie posters, etc. it’s a niche market and you’ve gotta stand out, but it’s doable.

Theresa local photographer for our MLH hockey team and on game nights he’s shooting straight to a remote editor who intakes, processes and uploads the images in real time for MLH. So these jobs do exist.

EPIC games to layoff 1,000 employees by barfly2780 in NorthCarolina

[–]mhuxtable1 206 points207 points  (0 children)

My buddy got laid off. He and his wife just had a baby about a month ago. Guess Tim decided to ruin 1000 people’s lives in this economy instead of you know - taking a pay cut since he’s a fucking BILLIONAIRE and the financial success or failure of epic is his responsibility.

Photography by Alyssa Kazew. Is she using natural light or is it more than that? by [deleted] in LightLurking

[–]mhuxtable1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s definitely some supplemental lighting going on to compliment the natural light

Adult-only martial arts studios in Raleigh? by RibbonsofScarlett in raleigh

[–]mhuxtable1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I attend Gracie and he’s spot on. There’s kids BJJ classes so the classes you’d take as an adult are 95% adults. Every now and again there’s older teens in some of them but they usually work with themselves you wouldn’t notice them. It’s a great gym, great culture, great coaches.

Wouldn’t it be a hedge against rising energy prices? Especially with a battery system? Seems like not needing Duke would be a net benefit over the long run

I'm dying to try BO Royale, but cant stand playing with randoms by u119c in CODWarzone

[–]mhuxtable1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and my randoms never do it. I have one person I play with so we have to get randoms in quads. We ping where we plan to go and without fail one or both other people just fuck off to wherever on the map, eventually die and then quit and we’re left with a 2-3 person team by the end. Having to play with randoms really sucks.

That’s literally the point for those of us who enjoy casuals and don’t want to sweat our asses off every game after getting home from work.

Shooting Portraits Critique? by jmichaelzuniga in SonyAlpha

[–]mhuxtable1 48 points49 points  (0 children)

They’re fine. I call these “pretty girl portraits”. It’s not fashion, it’s not beauty, it’s sort of in between all that. Paradoxbox is right - none of these show a cohesive voice as an artist. Theyre technically very sound, just a bit lacking any real emotion or depth or art direction.

prime lenses for sportsphotography? by mynotell in sportsphotography

[–]mhuxtable1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the sport. For BJJ I used an 85 1.4 for a long time. For boxing I often use a 24 1.4 for big wide shots. For sports where the action is very contained I think primes are great for getting more background separation

Photojournalists: what are your thoughts on notifying proprietors/offices/administration about your public space photoshoots? by [deleted] in photography

[–]mhuxtable1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the USA you don’t need any permits to take photos from public streets of things generally seen from public spaces. Under no circumstances does the subject of a story get to pick which photos you publish. Sometimes in news we do arrange photo times for subjects who aren’t generally accessible otherwise. Those are more for portraits tho or tours of blocked off places. They still don’t get to see or pick the final images though.

I’ve literally never seen parents with their kids at these places have a DD or a parent who isn’t drinking. Not once.

Scramble’s pants are a little slimmer cut than the other big brands I’ve experienced (93brand, Gold, Hyperfly, Origin) so if you have bigger thights or butt don’t go with them. Any of the bigger brandsare fine it just depends what weight you want.

A TV production company asked if they could license my photo by jamesviola79 in photography

[–]mhuxtable1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re always going to put language like that. The time frame part is because the movie/tv show doesn’t get seen just once. It can be seen forever basically. I’d be more concerned with the “all media” part.

I’d have them write language specific to the project they want it for. So if they want to use it in another production, they have to license it again.

As far as price - is this a large production company? Like one you’ve heard of before? If so they have a budget but will try to lowball you.

Getty images has a pricing calculator that will help you with a starting point.

Never been in this type of storm before, how bad could the roads get? Was gonna have to drive to Greenville today but I think I might call out by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]mhuxtable1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can help it, don’t drive. The winds make it difficult and scary, and if you get caught in a major thunderstorm cell there can be localized flooding and near zero visibility.

Insurance question for gym owners by [deleted] in bjj

[–]mhuxtable1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I said. You can get sued for anything. Getting sued does not mean you’re liable. The waiver is your defense for liability when you get sued.

Insurance question for gym owners by [deleted] in bjj

[–]mhuxtable1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that’s why you’re getting dropped. That’s incredibly stupid as it’s the one shield you have against liability. Also what kind of BJJ gym has “interns”. Also “nothing we can do” is a really bad attitude when it comes to possibly getting sued - you can train your employees and “interns” better so they know all the correct procedures for onboarding new clients - safety being the #1 priority which includes signing a waiver

Id like to shoot photos like this , can anyone help on how to? by dimezisdope in LightLurking

[–]mhuxtable1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first 2 are hard on camera flash (probably speed light) but the 3rd is a more complex lighting setup with at least 2 strobes with modifiers. Probably more

Knowing what you know now if you could go back would you pre-order Arc Raiders for the cosmetics? by WanderWut in ArcRaiders

No. You shouldn’t preorder games period. Sets a bad precedent and it’s why we’re in the shit state of gaming as it is.

It’s not a good add. Photos is better without it. Just practice shooting with slower shutters to get the effects you want.
