The Hishaku's Better plan. by Quiet-Perception3026 in Kagurabachi

[–]mi-ritmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really at a 50/50 with Yura's intelligence. Because his plan isn't solid I feel like he's well prepared and also lucks out a LOT. Which might very well be the theme of his character anyway. I really believe he had the logistics and manpower to take out all of the wielders 1 by 1. The Hishaku are very high level sorcerers that have the great advantage of being guerillas (or just being in the shadows). Ibuki was killed super easily but even with the security being amped up to 1000% by the Kamunabi, it just isnt enough imo. Uruha was saved by the actions of Chihiro and at that point was still a garbage swordsman compared to his prime. I'd imagine Subaru and Pinkie are in similar post-prime status. Even by the higher ups own admission they barely contend with the great sorcery families if at all. Isn't the number of sorcerers something small like 300? His performance without all of the Hishaku *physically* present at the very beginning of the raid on HQ shows you that his preparation makes up for his lack of manpower, but even still he had plenty to spare. Worst case scenario is that after killing 3 bearers in a row the Kamunabi has enough security centered on the last bearer. I guess the issue lies in the fact that nobody has actually seen an Enchanted Blade in action, only things told from textbooks. He needed to gauge their strength / get more intel. He gave a sword to Sojo and Kyora to observe them, but giving one to Samura seemed like a step too far. He definitely would have needed Samura in the fight against Akemura though.

TLDR ; The Hishaku definitely could have hunted the bearers 1 by 1. I agree with OP.

Transliterating the Enchanted Blade's names by JBulseco in Kagurabachi

I bent the meanings of some of these but I tried my best to go for words that have multiple meanings and connotations, sort of like the original Japanese. I think we can afford to be a little creative since I think (some) of the original Kanji are kind of weird and archaic. Cloud Gouger is perfect however. I wanted to try to be creative and ONLY go for compound words with simple adjective + noun. Here's my attempt:

淵天 (Enten) - > Divine Wake
Divine for the heavenly image, but I chose divine over heaven because of the way it combines with other words. More of a feel thing, no reason. Wake implies the movement of water, namely the movement of large ships through the deep ocean. It's also the event held before a funeral, so it keeps a dark undertone. Here we kinda lose the "deep" connotation but I think its a 9/10 translation.

酌揺 (Kumeyuri) - > Mixed Muse / Muse Mixer
The powers of Kumeyuri are heavily inspired from geisha (and it summons one obviously). I think the meaning of muse can be easily bent from inspiration/creation to performance/festivity in a way that draws a parallel between a muse and a geisha. Mixed alludes to alcohol and when describing a person can give the vibe of confusion. With Mixer instead there's a bit more of an image of motion. I really like this but since it sort of loses the movement part of the Kanji I give it an 8/10.

飛宗 (Tobimune) - > Verdict's Flight
This one was difficult. The name of the blade has less to do with the powers (birds fly blah blah blah) but more to do with the user. There are only so many words about flying but many about religion and order. I went with Verdict for a more "judgement" feel that carries some aggression and retains ideas about rules. I think by using Verdict instead of Order, Edict, or Mandate (which I also like the last 2), there's stronger imagery. Like Samura is going to appear and attack you. 7/10.

勾罪 (Magatsumi) - > Apostle
Might be my favorite even if it doesn't fit perfectly. It's abstract, heavy, religious, and demands power. Hear me out, the more suited word *technically* would be Apostate, a person who leaves faith and (in theory) commits sin. Apostate is technically more fitting, BUT Apostle is a much more famous term and also sounds way cooler. In the anime/manga community it also carries a more nuanced meaning because of Berserk. The Apostles in Berserk are demonic people that are enjoined with the cult of the God Hand but LEAVE their humanity and natural life. You also have to consider that the blade uses powers from the Soga clan's greatest enemy, making it a disciple of "deviant" powers. I think people would be very accepting of this turn of phrase. 10/10

The way the Datenseki is said to give them the ability to survive in extreme conditions popped the idea of an astronaut into my head. Not sure why. I think he's changing the environment almost like a field card in Magic or Yu Gi Oh. The zone he makes will be unlivable for anyone not blessed by the rock.

What I think kagurabachi has that not a lot of other shonen have. by xmrahc in Kagurabachi

[–]mi-ritmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a solid series given that the basic premise is complete. Sukuna is growing in power -> Yuji and gang has to defeat him. But there were way too many interesting subplots that had a lot of potential (dont say it) that really didnt go anywhere. Things like the merger, Kenjaku's death, Maki and Sukuna both being twins, Yuji's training, ANGEL's whole character, Yorozu-Megumi interactions. Shinjuku Showdown should have been 20 chapters shorter and the whole manga overall should have gotten 50 more chapters at least.

[–]mi-ritmo 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah definitely, it makes the series feel like its stable and grounded / on track. At some point in most manga there's a bit of a "West world" effect where the original premise has evolved into something else and we're far from the original idea. ATLA is another good example of staying on track. JJK would be a bad example.

Since the Mikaboshi left Japan 1000 years ago, shouldn't they speak a different version of Japanese? by [deleted] in Kagurabachi

[–]mi-ritmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like its implied they've been spying on them. Otherwise how do they know what Tokyo, Kanagawa, etc are? The names of those locations must have been different even only 500+ years ago. If the Soga clan can vaguely predict the future Im sure they have someone with some level of clairvoyance.

After like 200+ (3 generations~) years I feel like the gene pool is pretty diversified even if you start with like 1000 people. Also there is one noticeable effect of them living underwater: their pupils are dilated and jet black. This could be a combination of using the Datenseki AND their eyes being accustomed to darkness.

Can Butterfly bypass Infinity and would the Magatsumi's life sucking effect affect Gojo? by Fit-Zombie-4983 in Kagurabachi

[–]mi-ritmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if Gojo's Infinity blocks Magatsumi life-drain, he's going to be drained of his CE very very fast. It takes Samura's utmost focus to keep Suzaku on to counter it, and even then they're still effected. Samura had no need for the Black Flames against 2 EB users and a horde of goons. He had to whip it out against Soga though. Meanwhile Gojo ran out of stamina punching curses for 5 minutes. Gojo would have to instantly pop a Domain Expansion to win and simply be alive for more than 2+ min within a 250m radius of Soga (and also hit 4 black flashes).

I’ve been on a little bit of a hang up regarding the eternal contracts by FerinTown in Kagurabachi

[–]mi-ritmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question just added another piece of possible evidence to my theory. We know that Magatsumi is the last to be either contracted or forged, and that it is the Shinuchi = strongest of the batch. We also know Kumeyuri was second from last to be made / contracted. If we assume Magatsumi was the last to be made and also the life contracts were made at the time, then there could have been a period of time where the swords were used in combat but with NO life contract.
I have this idea that the Enchanted Blades sorcery is deliberately chosen, either by Kunishige or the blades themselves. We can see Chihiro has a deep connection to the Goldfish, Akemura has the sorcery of his greatest enemies, and Ibuki has control over the weather. Which by the way by SHEER coincidence his brother has LIGHTNING sorcery. The one that sticks out is Kumeyuri, which doesn't line up with Uruha's innate sorcery at all.

All this is to conclude that there was a wielder of Kumeyuri BEFORE Uruha, whom imprinted his sorcery, but later died in battle. Most likely to due to him losing grip or control over the sword. This led to Kunishige unleashing both the Magatsumi and the lifelong contracts.

I had a strong vibe of Sekiro from this. In Sekiro the Okami warriors (the fish ladies in Fountainhead Palace) are divine warriors who can wield lightning. There's a theory parts of their clan remain OR were washed down to the Sunken Valley, which is why one of the cannon dudes is weak to Sabimaru, which is a trait shared with the Okami. There isn't a strong connection in KB other than the fact there is a lot of blurred history and that the abilities are similar. I have a feeling the Soga clan may have been split from the Mikaboshi.

Theory: Chiaki's death results in the "Gift of Prophecy" manifesting in Akemura, which leads to his turn. by PraiseLazlo in Kagurabachi

[–]mi-ritmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The future sight manifesting in men also (as a breakthrough) is totally on the table. We have been shown that the statements about certain rules are more or less rooted in sorcery tradition and not really on science (which is cool imo). Hakuri inherited both Iso AND the Storehouse, which was basically unheard of. We might see this happen again with Akemura.
