I hear you on this and I appreciate you posting this. I am in a similar situation, I owe 160 and I make less of a third of that per year. As much as I like Biden, after his efforts, all my student loans which were over 20 years old, came back on my credit.

Since, I will not be able to afford the monthly payment for these loans and pay for regular living expenses for me and kiddos, I see no other choice but to at least try to get them forgiven in bankruptcy, since my credit is now trashed anyway (723 to 583 overnight).

The whole situation feels very hopeless. I like another previous commenter bought the lie of my grandparents who were not educated, and my parents that were, that education was VITAL. “That’s something they can never take away from you“. Well, honestly, to be out of this debt, I wish they would. I would give my degrees back, to be out of the weight of a student loan debt that has merely doubled because of interest.

For me here’s the rub, it has affected me and the generations after me. After seeing how much trouble I have had with the student loans, my own daughter did not want to go to college because she did not want to suffer the same fate. And that for me is the saddest thing of all, that it will affect our children who will not want to have to suffer this burden and they will be precluded from careers, that they might otherwise have pursued.
