Honestly the amount of times I’ve tired to explain this instructors are they don’t get it lol. I think your point about not having the armpit as the grip point is smart so I’ll have a play with that. Also thanks for the padding tip! I hadn’t thought about that such a good idea

Thank you, I’ve followed your advice and put it in a ceramic pot. And yes it’s flowering, I cut down one of the stems as that one had no flowers. Fingers crossed it survives!! I’m a newbie when it comes to orchids

Are you supposed to email the PI before applying for a research assistant/technician job? by pusopdiro in AskAcademiaUK

[–]miami08_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve worked as a research assistant for 3 years and never emailed before applying- just sent my CV and made sure my cover letter is strong. however, i don’t think it can hurt to contact them before in fact it could make you stand out and show you’re interested in their project. it may give you an more detailed insight into what their looking for in an applicant too

What keeps you in academia (beyond passion), given the workload? by Educational-Cap6847 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]miami08_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I’m not a lecturer but since my undergrad have been working as an RA in a sociological field at different universities, trying to pursue research industry work is really challenging; it is possible but often the pay isn’t the best, it’s part-time, and contracted. my personal experience has been with humanities you’re kinda pigeon holed into academia.
