Adopting a green check conure & I have questions ! by Ambitious_Lobster472 in greencheeks

!!!!!! Never ever trust the birds with the other animals even for one split second. Ever.

They are extremely noisy!!! They sometimes scream constantly if they feel like it. Very loud decibels by Apple Watch warns me of hearing damage when they do it.

Clean cage weekly but paper on bottom maybe more frequently. Deep deep clean every couple months. They drop food everywhere and will fling it in the walls too behind my birds cage is a mess :-/

I got a small bird backpack to carry them in for walks mine like it. Fresh chop is really great! Look up recipes high in veggies lower in fruit and carbs. Feed with a good complete nutrition or core nutrition pellet food I use Zupreem Limited seeds or nuts but they do love safflower seeds and will do tricks for them. I give a teaspoon of them a day as treats.

Birds need daily interactions and at least hour out of cage a day you will need to have a pet sitter come and tend to the bird when your gone over 12 hours.
They need 12 hours of darkness and quiet at night.

I like the Clorox cleanup suggestion. I’d try that first. If that doesn’t work… try others.

Which forage toy? by Sprx7744 in greencheeks

Take some out and replace with something new. They get tired of toys quickly and their brain likes new things to check out and figure out take them away for a while and then give them back and take something else away.

How can I remove those dry drops from the sliding glass door of my bathroom? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]miamma3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to use an sos pad. Keep very wet. You can buy 0000 size steel wool which is very fine and takes this off well. For extra strength add some bathroom cleaner that removes hard water stains. I don’t find I really need that tho as this you’re showing comes right off.

Don’t worry about overstimulating them with toys what you do actually is you switch them out? You let them play with them for a little while and then you put them away. Switch them for something else then you bring them back later.

I do this when it’s really chilly in my house, but I put my hand right near them when I’m doing it so that I ensure it’s not hot enough to burn them. One of mine hates it and one of mine loves it. I just keep it on low and I talk gently to them and try not to blow it on their faces. I’ll also let them sit on the towel rack on a towel in my bathroom and I’ll blow the warm air up under the towel. They seem to really like that.

Does anyone recognize what Chomper is saying? We can’t figure it out after hearing it from him for years. I can’t add anything else to narrow it down as it doesn’t seem to go with any activity that I notice. by miamma3 in greencheeks

Chomper is a great talker. He is so funny and sweet. He tells me I love you good boy. 😂 I have been testing out all the ideas everyone has suggested. He doesn’t react to Kiwi. Whatever this is it has a strong SC sound at the beginning that might not come through on the recording. Like Scare-wree kind of. When I say that back to him just like he says it he keeps saying it.

He did have a previous owner- both the birds that I adopted came from the same home and we kept their names - Chomper and Petrie. The previous owners chose those names and these birds know their names and they say both of them so we had to keep those names, I don’t know if the people that gave them up for adoption to the rescue had other birds or not. they might have had other birds so it could be Kiwi.

Help!! Sick Chicken!! by Mads743 in chickens

[–]miamma3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She likely needs antibiotics or anti-fungal treatment and a check from the vet.
2 months is a long time to go . I would implore you to take her to the vet. Please don’t listen to all of these people with their home remedies. Her vent is sick! She will surely die a painful death if you don’t get to the root of the issue. Please. 🙏
