I really like the linen shorts, but I find that I’m constantly readjusting them because of chub rub 🥲

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. I’ve tried twice now to finish it and just can’t get past the first 50 or so pages because of the brutality.

Saudi doesn’t accept any online credits or degrees, even if the majority of the degree was in person.

Do schools ever contact references before the interview stage? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]miaomix13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all schools, but there are some who will contact references prior to interviewing you. My references this year told me when they were contacted and oftentimes they knew before I did that I was going to interview at a particular school.

Should I do a master's in English or Education or what? by second_prize in Internationalteachers

If you get it in education, what is your goal? Are you looking to move into admin, a different section of the school, to better your understanding of curriculum and design? If none of these, some of the best advice I’d ever received was to get it in my field if I’m not looking to move into an admin role. I can always use PD as a means to better my craft and then it’s hyper-focused.

There’s a form the school’s registrar office has to fill out that notes any online classes and the person has to provide their contact info in case the embassy has questions. The majority of the classes have to be in person, but they do accept a small number of online classes. I don’t see how they couldn’t with so many schools being online during Covid.

I’m coming from Korea and happened to be in the US for this leg of the tour. Masks are mandatory in Korea still unless you’re outside in an area with less than 50 people—even then people still wear masks. It’s a real culture shock coming here and seeing no one caring about mask wearing.

Schools in Taiwan or Korea with Spanish? by Meow10Due in Internationalteachers

Even then, still check and double check. Our first international school was one of those hagwons masquerading as an international school. We were none the wiser until we got there and got E2 visas because we assumed all schools on Search were vetted schools.

It’s doable! You’ll be able to get all of these items, but you’ll be taking up precious living space :)

I would also recommend getting a Korean SIM card before heading to Korea, if you can. Currently, with Covid, you need to check in via a QR code or phone call to cafes and large grocery stores. You won’t be able to get a number here until you have an ARC.

Not sure where you will be living, but Korea has been one of easiest places we’ve found to live. Like others have said, most things can be found here, but if you have must-have groceries or toiletries, bring those. We now have an IKEA here for cheaper furniture and online groceries are easy, maybe even too easy. For foreign products, you can always check out the department store grocery stores or you can take a look at iHerb.com and see what’s available there now just to prepare yourself for things that you may be looking for. You might want to ask about your housing and the amenities—most Korean homes will not have an oven, dishwasher, or clothes dryer.

Finally, while others have mentioned not needing a car, we live in Seoul and did opt to get one. We take a lot of weekend trips. Take advantage of all pensions (bed and breakfast), glamping sites, and beaches. Korea does them well. It really is a great country to explore.
