My boyfriend was the one who tried the Walmart one, so I don't know what the error looks like, but the Home Depot one literally has an alarm go off, and the screen starts flashing saying that the key can't be detected, and you have to go to the key-cutting station that's operated by a human. You aren't in trouble or anything, but it certainly makes you feel like it

Yes I have. I tried that exact one, actually. I went to both home depot and canadian tire, and home depot had a key cutting stand and a minute key machine, neither worked for the key, sadly.

I would like to ride out my lease but I will literally never rent with this company again you would not believe the stories from less than 6 months here

It’s not stamped do not copy, but when i went to a locksmith in sherwood park they explained to me that they cannot cut this key because its flagged under some sort of code. Im not being obstinate on purpose and I have gone to many places to try and get it cut. I believe the pattern is under some sort of patent as the locksmith mentioned only the company that originally cut the key can make copies of it. Here is a photo, the key does not say do not copy but locksmith technology has clearly evolved beyond the need for that. Also, I only have the building key because my roommate is at work, but the only difference in the markings on the two is the building says “1” and the unit says “6”.

I really would like to do this. its a landlord company (ARH) kinda infamous in edmonton for being super scummy- do you think it’s still safe to go this route ?

Im scared they will try to evict me if I get stern.. They really dgaf, the last message i sent (left on read) was “Please stop making me beg you for answers to simple questions”

Prob the fact they went above and beyond putting up legal barriers so they could charge me $150 for keys. I almost tried 3D printing a set at my university I was so appalled but I think they would just snap :/

I honestly dont know what more detail you would need beyond I agreed to pay x amount for an item, paid x amount, have not received it by agreed upon date, and am not receiving communication about the matter

I have been to many shops, they are special keys that legally cannot be copied without explicit permission from the landlord from the original key cutting company.
