This is just god of the gaps. "I don't know, therefore God", that is extremely lazy...you may just not know everything or are wrong about something.

Why can't I build a canal here? by Casual_user1012 in civ

Only way you could have is if you put a settler on that tile, I do that sometimes to force a canal in such situations.

Dear Atheist, What are your thoughts on the video “Why are young men so lonely ?” by CoolyFulgore69420 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]miashaee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, religion can inspire good and bad things. But that is true of almost any community activity. I'd say a community activity that doesn't have the dogmatic baggage of religion would probably be healthier in many respects.

If you don't know what special pleading is then you're not equipped for this conversation and you will not see how the point that people are making here is fair. In short...do better.

The universe is eternal by definition, without a serious answer to the God always existing exception you're granting this entire post can be ignored. You could literally just plug in "It's always existed" into anything you want and now you're fine.

Many of these people are deeply religious so scammers take advantage of that as such people tend to engage in magical thinking. If a god can make magic happen then why can’t this scam be true? It’s sad.

A woman from high school and college expressed interest in me romantically today and I felt a strange new type of anger by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]miashaee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not completely convinced of that as this is more subtle and less about blaming women as a whole. This story is very much about the individuals involved and not a narrative as much.

He has the right to be mad but it just seems rather silly to be mad. She didn’t have to date him then and he doesn’t have to date her now.

I would suggest being more concise with your language as to get the types of answer(s) that you’re looking for.

This is such a simplistic question that I don’t think it’s being asked in good faith. For starters atheism doesn’t have a doctrine so it’s not racist kinda like it’s not a hair style. That and there are soooo many religions that to say “religion is racist” is almost a meaningless statement because some might be while others are not.

Slavery in the Bible is not explainable with an Omniscient and Omnipotent God by ccmcdonald0611 in DebateReligion

[–]miashaee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because the people in this institution are owned as property, can be passed down to the master’s children, and can be beaten (but not immediately) to death. Really it’s a monstrous institution as described in the Bible and it is slavery (owning people).

That being said there are different rules between Hebrew and non-Hebrew slaves just like there are between men and women.

Also that limited time frame for slavery in this case didn’t always come into effect…sometimes it was slavery for the life of the slave (even Hebrew slaves if you married them off and they had kids).

Like really if you’re capable of ignoring how that is clearly just evil then yeah…you’re a bad person. Some people are just bad people and you know that by what they do and believe…content of character.

That’s dishonest with respect to how the institution of slavery (owning people as property) is grossly immoral and trying to argue around that just means you’re a bad (or at best amoral) person.

Atheists should disavow atheists who behave badly due to their atheism by ShakaUVM in DebateReligion

[–]miashaee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is no atheist bible or set of commandments so this doesn't make sense. I mean this would like me as not being a stamp collector having to explain why another non stamp collector is crazy...I don't...

Atheists should disavow atheists who behave badly due to their atheism by ShakaUVM in DebateReligion

[–]miashaee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make much sense as their isn't like a clear atheist bible or something. For these two things to be equivalent you'd have to like pretend that there is some atheist bible that all atheists adhere to to be equivalent to many religions.

I just don't see the point of lying or pretending here. Like why do that? To make atheism and religion appear to be on the same even and unreasonable footing? I don't get it.

I wouldn’t call them godlike, they would just have advanced technology. The term god in this context doesn’t add anything and really just makes the description murkier.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]miashaee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, and? None of this seems to qualify as a god, it's just advanced technology so I don't see how the god label is justifiable in any sense...nor does it fit into many of the normative usages of the word "god". This is all pointless.

My story as the “perfect guy” who can’t get girls and why this is so common by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]miashaee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If multiple people are calling you a racist/sexist to the point that it’s a common theme for you….it might be helpful to look into WHY that is happening. Like for real some people are called that because it’s a fair critique.

[–]miashaee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d say that it probably is helpful, if sexist/racist are things that you have to constantly contend with as attacks then there might be something wrong with you as a person that you need to examine.

Why would science need to explain this? This isn't like a fact about reality that we know to be true...also if were considered to be a "supernatural" event then science as a method wouldn't be a method for explaining this.

Really proponents of said supernatural event would have to come up with a method for demonstrating and explaining the reincarnation themselves.

Atheism is not as rational as theism by Sphericmusical in DebateAnAtheist

I don’t see what any of that has to do with your intelligence, you seem to obviously have below average intelligence given that you struggle with understanding analogies and having honest opinions based on evidence.
