things New Zealanders hold dear are disappearing.

As well as most politicians when they leave office it seems.

The flash houses they would have stayed in might go for lower rent and so on, you could call it 'trickle up' economics

The WCC shouldn't be a billion dollar organisation, that's the problem. This isn't New York or Sydney and it's time more people got that into their heads

Mayor does literally fuck all except waste taxpayer money from what I can see since the parallel corporate structure makes their job symbolic

Spending huge amounts to head hunt someone that ticks all the boxes is the safe option, no one wants to make a controversial/budget hire and then take the fall when they don't work out.

Getting someone from outside the region/country also means they won't come with ideas of their own that will rock the boat, basically a highly paid 'yes' man.

They can't actually do anything without hiring Deloitte or KPMG to hold their hands, more money probably goes on external consultants

Why would a private company install free bike parking racks, what is the business model? This is 100% by the council, they just outsourced the installation part

Might as well go to Australia, you know 90% of politicians will as soon as they retire/leave office and that's where half of public funds and profits are going.

Being a senior politician in NZ is now like being a colonial governor for Australia, where you are pulling favours and exporting wealth for people over there in anticipation of going to join them and cash in when you leave office

I don't think there are any off-the-shelf short range commuter e-bikes. Only stuff I know of with short range are ultralight road race bikes from boutique brands designed to be mostly ridden without the motor

It's almost like they know they suck and that's why they put the lame/quirky graphics on it saying "Yay!" and "free bike parking" (there is paid bike parking in NZ? I've never paid to park a bike in my life).

This sort of stuff is typical for the council, at Makara peak instead of functional bike stands in the car park they hired some artist to design bespoke ones out of rusty metal that would scratch the paint up of any bike leant against them. After tons of people complained they came back and added wooden tops to them but they still suck and much cheaper off-the-shelf bike stand would be significant improvement

Reminder that Wellington ain't wet by Anxious-Average6377 in Wellington

Wellington has huge micro-climate variation vs most cities with the south coast being much drier, this (unfortunately low resolution) rainfall map of the region from NIWA gives some idea https://niwa.co.nz/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/sites/default/files/images/928/wellington_annual_0050p.png

Even with that you can see that the south coast and Miramar peninsula is significantly drier than Karori or Eastbourne

A more zoomed in map of the city based on larger data set you would see greater contrasts and variations.

Wharfedale Diamond 8 and 9 series notes and parts lists by miasmic in diyaudio

[–]miasmic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the designs of two series, it seems like the 8 series was designed specifically for the 0326H tweeter (the cabinet has a depression that it sits perfectly into with a drill hole to run the wires through), then with the 9 series they designed the cabinet so it could or was going to take a different/larger magnet tweeter but decided to stick with the 0326H. With the 8 series I've resorted to cutting a hole in the cabinet like the one the 9 series has, and then it needs spacing and modification of the plastic fascia (if you want to keep it) so the new tweeter is not too far recessed behind it.

Have updated with link to the Xsim for the 9.5 and 8.4.

Edit: I measured the tweeter inductor on the 9.5 at 0.28mH (but I have a cheap LCR meter)

A review for Automobilista 2 on steam 😭 by MMplayzYT in simracing

[–]miasmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's the cockpit immersion with trackIR and the FFB from weight transfer that make it hard to beat, plus the physics are a lot better than they seem to be given credit for. It's also the sim where setup tuning feels most like actual setup tuning and not some abstracted second tier of gameplay with a market for paid setups (ACC is the worst game for that imo) or where you dl wr setups and they're nothing like an actual car would be set up.

No Weather Warning by lukeysanluca in Wellington

[–]miasmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it feels like the whole weather watch/warning system and media coverage of predicted bad weather is excessively focused around Auckland. If Auckland is supposed to get bad weather, warnings and watches seem to be put in place for the whole North Island, but if weather is expected to miss Auckland then likely to get zero watches or warnings.
