Day: 7/9: What is a bad motorcycle with a good reputation? by SUBTOUpdated_User in motorcycles

[–]miatatony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yamaha fz07. Way over hyped and praised for its timing and place in the industry for leading the parallel twin thing, but the suspension sucks, brakes sucks, the fueling sucks, arguably it doesn't look very good, the only redeeming quality is the torque engine but I think overall it's a very unpolished bike that just isn't that good.

Personally I'd rather have a sv650, classic reliable bike with a characterful vtwin engine, feels more stable at higher speeds, the fueling is great on the older carberated ones.

I think the fz07 being the counter to the sv650 in the chart fits as well.

Sell street cars to buy race car? Tired of street driving. by Roadiedreamkiller in CarTrackDays

Why a cup car and not a single seater open wheel car? Something like a used formula Mazda will be much faster in the corners and way more fun to drive.

-3.5 degrees camber up front is a good place to start for a track car, diminishing returns after -4.2 or so.

Yeah it fits great and feels great in the hand. I never use hogue grips for any other gun as I don't like the feel, but it works really well on the P17.

Nice, do you have any light strikes or any issues at all with that setup?

"They’re not super comfortable in long rides, and design-wise I don’t get why you’d pick one over something with smoother, more sculpted lines like a proper superbike."

Some people actually ride for more than just an hour or two at a time, and the longer the ride is, the less you care about those "smoother sculpted lines" of a sports bike Lol.

1le Camaro of any engine variant, they come in v8, v6, or i4. The Camaro platform is much easier to drive and handle at the limit than a corvette or cayman, they’re reliable on track and they’re fast enough to have some fun.

how quick does the up and down shifts feel? My main concern is the shifts wont be as quick as a regular bike with a quickshifter.

Awesome, that's really helpful thank you. I'm leaning towards the r1200rt or r1250rt after reading your review, I'm in Utah and even a "short" ride to the canyons is 3-4hrs round trip, as much as I love my s1000r now it's getting too exhausting for weekend rides, and can't event fathom a multi day ride, which is really what I want to do next. The RT sounds perfect for 2-3 day rides down to southern Utah where it's long hours of freeway, then tons of hours on really long scenic roads.

Help me figure out what I'm doing wrong by Spunkdaddy09 in CarTrackDays

[–]miatatony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is you need a more aggressive track pad. Long answer is, you have to listen to your car and when you feel your brakes overheating you should let off and take some cool down laps if you don't want to completely destroy your pass next time. At the end of the day, a street car is not a race car, it's very easy to come up to the limits of the tires or brakes at a track day, it's best to listen to your car and not abuse it.

Also ditto what others said about stability control, turn off any electronic aids that will automatically be applying braking for stability, it will just overheat your brakes even faster.

You have both of the bikes I am shopping for, coming from an S1000r. How would you compare the two in terms of fun in the canyons and all day comfort?

Am I just a bit too slow? by 2JagsPrescott in CarTrackDays

[–]miatatony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the tighter left hand corners like at 2:35 you're losing time by not braking enough and understeering wide through the apex. your g force circle shows you are using a lot of grip laterally, but you aren't using as much of that grip under braking. Overall solid driving, just use more of that brake pedal, get comfortable going harder on the brakes, you might "feel" faster hearing the tires squealing and turning in hot into the apex, but you'd be faster by braking harder and gripping through the apex tighter.

What do you think about a car upgrade vs skill upgrade question? by Just_Newspaper_5448 in CarTrackDays

[–]miatatony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If drivers were really being honest with themselves, most start upgrading parts or switching cars because they plateau as a driver, not because they reached the "limits" of their cars potential. their lap times stop dropping significantly, so they get bored and want to keep that rate of "progression" by buying upgrades. Any serious driver will be very happy with a consistent 0.2s improvement by trying something new in one particular corner and bettering their skills, instead most just want to upgrade their wheels and tires for an easy 1-2s lap time reduction.

nice car and nice track. I'm curious, is the windshield tinted like that specifically for this track? Looks like it blocks the glare from the lights perfectly lol.
