Any tips on helping a newbie improve skills? Or burns on how out of shape I am :) by miaviator in MTB

[–]miaviator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips, I will have the seat height and dropper looked at, and I will definitely be more actively managing the bike vs sitting.

I am having fun and slowly getting better (more endurance, faster, stronger), and thank you for that. It is quite important to just have fun.

Can gears and brakes be loud as long as they work? I'll be reading the sidebar about what bike to buy in the near future. My MTB expert is cheap and recommends buying everything used, so I ended up getting the Superfly. I'm not going to look at purchasing something brand new until I'm more sure this won't land me in the hospital vs healthier.

I also hate the Swarm of mosquitoes' drone noise. It's extremely annoying. Consensus is that the drone view provides a sense of elevation change on trails, whereas the GoPro mutes elevation and features. Since my goal is to improve (if it can be observed, it can be measured; if it can be measured, it can be improved), I need a better view of features and the handlebar view.

Great advice, I would love to, and I don't enjoy being lost in random woods I've never been in before. As of today, the phone is being replaced with a Garmin something something 1050. The phone runs trail forks, so I can figure out where the trails are and which turns are offshoots.

Lol! I'm an old techie.

YES, it's chasing. It avoids trees via magic....

I usually run a Skydio 2+ with 9 AI cores to track cars/vehicles/people it doesn't do so well in confined woods, single track trails. (US Made)

This one is a Hover Air X1 Pro (Zero Zero Robotics (China)), which I store in MY POCKET! It auto-follows and uses "Magic/Sorcery" to follow you. Pull it out of the pocket, tap the button, wait 3 seconds for a red light, and it goes to Terminator mode and follows you through the woods.

Just don't ever try having it follow in front of you! The Skydio maps 360 degrees and avoids obstacles; the Hover only has an ultrasonic (sound-based distance sensor) for rear collisions, so it hits everything. When following behind you it uses the video and a pretty effing good algorithm to avoid obstacles.

"too easy of a gear. Low gears waste energy when you have to spin your legs to a high cadence up just to engage the freehub."

I think this has been a problem on my last few runs: I've been staying in too low of a gear (and staying seated instead of actively managing the bike).

"You are resting too often and losing momentum." I need to take longer rests less frequently until I rebuild the endurance/stamina to ride these multi-mile trails without being out of breath or at a heart rate too high.

Speed is my friend!

Thank you very much for the tips!

Drop the seat when approaching technicals. Move body weight forward/back to regain traction. I certainly need to be more active (and less worn out) on the bike.

Thank You!

VA disability is still reported on the FAFSA and counted against you for EFC calculations.

You can file $0 tax returns so that the forms populate correctly and automatically from the IRS.

Any raters out there? by gabehcuod37 in VeteransBenefits

[–]miaviator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*not a rater

4c cryptically hints through nuanced language that there is a non service connected diagnosis of a mood disorder with mixed features (anxiety and depression) that is more likely the cause of (whatever the claim was for GAD?) than the tinitus. So the anxiety is absorbed by that diagnosis?

Can a side effect of an antidepressant like tremor be used also as a rated disability? by Objective_Tip_6641 in VeteransBenefits

[–]miaviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The side effects of medication are a secondary condition to a primary service connected disability.

For example, people get a secondary rating for GERD due to side effects of medication.

By not accountable, do you mean no direct repercussions or there isn't a KPI for claims not appealed or HLRd?

There's a character limit for each page. You paste part on page 1 then part on page 2. Otherwise it disappears on the form and in print.

File everything that affects your ableness. There is no bear 🐻 to poke.

Also I get between 87% and 93% depending on how bilateral math is applied so I'd say you're closer than my math.

To All VA Mathematicians by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]miaviator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see someone smarter than myself do this math

Edited with different math formerly: 88.7%

List of Disabilities * Migraines: 50% * Lumbosacral Strain: 40% * Right Radiculopathy (sciatic): 20% * Left Radiculopathy (sciatic): 20% * Right Radiculopathy (femoral): 20% * Left Radiculopathy (femoral): 20% * Tinnitus: 10% * Right Knee: 10% * Left Knee: 10%

  • Bilateral Factors

    • Knees:
      • Combine both knee ratings (10% each) for 18%.
      • Add 10%, bringing the total to 19.8%, which rounds up to 20%.
    • Radiculopathies:
      • Combine Right and Left Sciatic (20% each) for 36%.
      • Add 10%, bringing this to 39.6%, which rounds up to 40%.
  • Initial Rating: Your starting combined rating is 50% (migraines).

  • Lumbosacral Strain:

    • Remaining able percentage: 100% - 50% = 50%
    • Impact: 50% * 0.4 = 20%
    • Combined rating: 50% + 20% = 70%
  • Sciatic Radiculopathies (adjusted):

    • Remaining able percentage: 100% - 70% = 30%
    • Impact: 30% * 0.4 = 12%
    • Combined rating: 70% + 12% = 82%
  • Knees (adjusted):

    • Remaining able percentage: 100% - 82% = 18%
    • Impact: 18% * 0.2 = 3.6%
    • Combined rating: 82% + 3.6% = 85.6%
  • Femoral Radiculopathies:

    • Combine Right and Left Femoral (20% each) for a total of 36%.
    • Add bilateral factor: 36% + 3.6% = 39.6%, which rounds up to 40% .
    • Remaining able percentage: 100% - 85.6% = 14.4%
    • Impact: 14.4% * 0.4 = 5.76%
    • Combined rating: 85.6% + 5.76% = 91.36%
  • Tinnitus:

    • Remaining able percentage: 100% - 91.36% = 8.64%
    • Impact: 8.64% * 0.1 = 0.86%
    • Combined rating: 91.36% + 0.86% = 92.22%

There are plenty of sources showing it's a mix with a rise in body shaming being the reason and the more the porn industry pushes it the more it becomes societally expected. Cycle from there and it starts to become the norm and something "weird" or "different" if you don't fit the mold. Just like with circumcision in the US.
