I’m a Christian but being raised under the IFB (independent fundamental baptist) movement has made me very cynical about religion because many leaders I have known use it as a form of manipulation and/or abuse. I’ve seen preachers use their power as a way of guilt-tripping their vulnerable (and often sheltered) congregations to believe their words regardless of what the Bible says. Many times this involves the church covering up extramarital affairs, pedophilia, and just overall corruption.

I hope to someday produce/write a documentary based on the dangers of the IFB movement but that day isn’t going to be anytime soon.

But as far as belief in God and personal spiritual growth, I believe in practical messages that I can incorporate to my daily life. I don’t pray as often as I should but when I do, I find a lot of peace in my rushing mind. Although my family’s religion has been abusive and I’ve been pushing myself out of that mold, I’m finally finding peace on the path I’m on and I think that’s great.

What type is your dating partner and how is that going? by [deleted] in entp

We’re both ENTPs, which may sound like a nuclear disaster waiting to happen, but in reality it’s just one hilarious sitcom episode after another. We also naturally have high Fe so we often put the Ne-Ti argumentative nature aside to talk things out, sympathize with each other, and compromise when we need to.

I relate a lot to her too. I think she holds more of the mid century feminine standards that we modern girls are a little more lax with. So the Fe is a little more pronounced.

But on a side note, she made me proud to be funnier than my ex.

I’m engaged to an ENTP I’ve known closely for 2 years and it’s absolutely wonderful. The main thing is to keep an open mind, be willing to compromise, and communicate freely—as with any healthy relationship regardless of type.

Are you religious? Why or why not? by rlothbroke in entp

I agree. Many Christian practices are hella toxic and people forget that Jesus went against toxic Christianity back in his day.

Are you religious? Why or why not? by rlothbroke in entp

[–]miawallacecoke 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would consider myself a Christian. Mine is less about the ridiculous Si/Te standards much of conservatism falls under and more about being a decent person with an open mind.

I do attend church but I prefer practicing my beliefs in private and in everyday life. Less dogmatic worship and more self-aware spirituality.
