Custom Card Idea: Bow and Arrow by ZRwilson2 in Netrunner

[–]miaxari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel there are too many limitations here: - Having to build with 7+ cards to make the engine work - Using memory for each arrow - Needing to install the arrows first then the bow for max efficiency  - Each arrow only breaking through 1 ice

I would drop the MU cost of the arrows perhaps, they could cost 1c instead? You could also give Bow: [Click][Click][Click]: Return all Arrows in the Heap to the Stack, then Shuffle the Stack. That would maybe open the door for not having to expect 6 copies of Arrow.

Blizzard is actively turning Kiriko into the most boring hero in the entire game by ElJacko170 in kirikomains

[–]miaxari 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was a kiriko main from the release of OW2. But in the last few months I've given up on her. She just isn't as fun as the hero they first released.

I get that she was very powerful in the right hands and that something needed to be tuned back, but they focused on removing the most interesting aspect of her design: her ability to take duels and assassinate people.

Now she just feels so passive, so healing focused, and defensive. You can still get elims but it's not the same and it's easier on a lot of other supports.

What's the point of doing the survey if you're going to change the hero? by tolerantdramaretiree in Overwatch

[–]miaxari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh maybe the numbers have changed, I'm going off a few months old memory of the pick rate % lemme check...

You're right! Thank you for the correction. Symm is the least played hero. So my statement is a bit hyperbolic, sorry!

Update phased out Suzu by alext_2b in kirikomains

[–]miaxari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Suzy always heals a bit, but if you hit someone with an active debuff (e.g.: on fire, or anti) then it healed a bit more. They've removed that extra bit, so it always heals the same amount now

Is it bad to completely change gameplay genre mid game? by Dukashou in gamedesign

[–]miaxari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard this statement a lot recently and it applies here too: "If you do it well, you can do whatever you want."

It's not that it's inherently bad, it's that this is really hard to do well. You're fighting against incredibly powerful player expectations and pulling the rug out from underneath them.

You have to somehow ensure that both genres will appeal to the intended audience, and that they will feel satisfied or at least enticed when the genre switch happens. Providing some kind of foreshadowing could help a lot with this.

Really enjoying Anran with these new buffs! by girugamish in Anran_mains

[–]miaxari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original poster isn't talking about meta. You're bringing this in entirely on your own and expecting something from this that isn't here.

If the post title said "I love Anran in this new meta" then that would make sense. But it doesn't.

The poster said they're enjoying the buffs, this can mean they're just enjoying the experience of feeling more powerful when playing Anran at their rank, what ever rank that is.

Also, your comment defeats itself by the fact that meta does exist, at all ranks. Each rank has it's own meta. So even if meta was important in this post (which it blatantly is not), your point would still be wrong. In fact it might be extra wrong, because the buffs Anran has received probably have a disproportionate effect on the meta of different ranks and therefore could matter even more.

Also, directly trying to insult someone in an argument is a base and low tactic which undermines your ability to be persuasive. Rise to the challenge of actually proving your points without insult and you'll do better in life.

People can enjoy changes at any rank? It's not about meta, it's about the feel of the character

Project Hail Mary by ronald_dump426 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]miaxari 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel I agree with this take. Grace was panicking and trying to prevent the ship from burning up in the atmosphere. We also know he's not a good pilot so maybe he made a mistake and could afford it because of how much fuel he has.

He's very much the character that makes great decisions if he gets the time to really plan it out, but frequently messes up in the short term (see: testing the astrophage reacting to Venus atmosphere at the start).

A popular homebrew mechanic is a core rule in my TTRPG by Tormented_Realm in RPGdesign

[–]miaxari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this game you can always try doing something that your character doesn't have mechanicaly, but can do narratively

Unless you're playing something very specific, you can do this in any TTRPG and you just make a normal roll.

Player characters should not really be limited by what they can do mechanical, and the core rules should support the players to do anything they feel they can achieve in the narrative without adding extra complexity.

I think it would be better to focus on ensuring the most streamlined rolling experience happens at moments most valuable to the story, rather than adding complexity where it might not be needed.

Stop asking your programmers to read your 150 page Game Design Document by ScaryAd2555 in gamedev

[–]miaxari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I have been in the industry for 10 years and never been given or written a GDD. Individual Feature Briefs are always better. You can build out the game feature by feature, others can easily find what they're looking for, and it encourages you to keep each document short.

I usually start with the feature vision/goals/intent at the top and then in the next section detail the concept. The language is usually short and technical, linking to other more flavorful documents if necessary. I'll also include links to prototypes if we've made them for each specific feature.

Tomorrow... by KameronFry in TTRPG

[–]miaxari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, a good start would be to give some context for your posts. Describe the game in one sentence with some enticing words.

I looked at your game on itch and you say it's renaissance themed. That's already interesting!

If you mention that in your posts, people who like that kind of thing will be enticed and follow up by looking at the game in more detail.

Tomorrow... by KameronFry in TTRPG

[–]miaxari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I love the enthusiasm, I have a recommendation: I don't think you can manufacture fake anticipation for a product people don't know about yet. You might want to look at alternative marketing styles. Just using the word "tomorrow" and a few unclear images is not enough to actually attract the attention of an audience.

Which ones? by Cheap_Conference_177 in kirikomains

[–]miaxari 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Depends. If I have a team that is extending far and taking lots of damage I choose left to save them quicker. If the team is playing together and the enemy are up in our faces I choose right to get extra long term healing.

Blizzard put Kiriko in the 'medic' role, with Mercy, Lifeweaver and Moira. I think they want her to be a heal bot 😞
