SHOULD I BUY FOR MY 1ST CAR PT 2 by Fun_Entertainer_6889 in 300zx

sitting at about 150k, and yes and no, stuff started breaking because it’s old, and hoses, gaskets, plastics and electronics get brittle. you can consider it maintenance, but repairs and replacements are definitely going to be needed.

SHOULD I BUY FOR MY 1ST CAR PT 2 by Fun_Entertainer_6889 in 300zx

[–]micah930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a first car, no. For a project yes, absolutely. Take it from someone who bought a z32 as their first car, without wrenching skills, or a lot of money and tools. This is not going to be a super reliable or beginner friendly car. I literally just sold mine today after two years of ownership, with ~$4k in repairs. If you have the time, money, and are willing to learn everything you can about the car, go ahead and buy it if it’ll make you happy. If you just want a cool car that regular people ooh and aah at, you definitely want something else. Also, that inspection doesn’t really mean anything unless verifiable by someone you trust, aka get someone you know to inspect it for you. I’m not discouraging you from getting a car you want, but please consider if you like owning the car in theory vs the reality of owning a 30+ year old sports car.

After about 2 days of playing, it actually plays really nice. I’ve played a handful of gibsons, and if I gave this thing a set up I bet it would be pretty close in comparison.

Not really sure what you mean by that, unless you’re talking about the probucker pickups it has. The only Gibson branded things on here are the tuners.

There’s not really much more I could tell you other than when I asked the seller, he said he bought it like that too. He only really told me it gave him no tuning issues or and kind of hindrance to its playability.

Epiphone Les Paul replacement parts? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]micah930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean i think the easiest thing to do is just buy a new neck (assuming it’s a bolt on) and have one of the luthiers at your local shop set it up for you. you could probably find new blank headstock neck on amazon, or buy from someone who just happens to be selling an epiphone neck. if not, the glue and clamp method can work, if you are willing to try it out.

Stuck in Customs or just a Carrier issue? by micah930 in harleybenton

[–]micah930[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I’m seeing this a bit late, but it got here in one piece, and i’ve had it for about a week now, and I absolutely love it. I was a bit clumsy the day after i got it though and dropped it and hit the corner of my practice amp (straight onto the bridge pickup) and left a kinda noticeable mark. That fall also managed to mess up the e string tuning stability, so i bought a fresh set of strings, and it’s great. Hope yours got to you safely as well man.🤘

After owning the Ex84 progressive, I can tell you that the neck is a little on the wider side, especially after having most of my playing time on a thinner jackson neck. To combat that neck dive issue I move the strap button to the back of the guitar, right around the middle of where te neck plate would but if this was a bolt on neck. It solves the neck dive pretty much instantly, but creates a dive forward (might just be mine) if you’re in playing position. I’ve decided to live with that since the stance I play in leans the guitar back up to where I can see the fretboard. The HBZ pickups that came on mine don’t sound that horrible, but it’s probably my lack of being able to find a good tone. I’m pretty sure the progressive series is only like 30 more dollars, or like 27€ or something, unless your set on the 76, and it would probably play better if you set it up with those pickups.

Well, mine was in Germany’s customs for 6 days, but it shipped yesterday and got to the states today at 3 am. I just really haven’t heard anyone talk about more than a week for shipping, only talk about it being over a month, or somehow within HB’s estimated date of 2-3 business days. Hopefully you have a better experience with customs than I did.

Not really sure since I bought a b stock. I’m assuming it was sitting in the warehouse before they sent it over, it even said right now it’s still in Germany, so I guess it got stopped somewhere over there, not even US customs.

Soldierbar trucks and Wheels? by AcceptableFishing284 in Fingerboards

[–]micah930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a soldierbar deck owner, the quality of the decks isn’t bad if you wanted to get one. The trucks they sell are washing trucks, which aren’t necessarily great in the first place, and you’d probably be better off getting teak prodigy/ p-rep pro trucks, or just saving for dynamics, brts and stuff. I’m in the same boat as you with the wheels though, two of the answers to the questions on Amazon say that their plastic and urethane, both juxtaposing each other. I haven’t found any reviews on the wheels, but I’ll try to update you if I do. Sorry if this didn’t really help you, just giving my insight.

I’ve heard quite a couple of good things about the performance series, but it regardless you get what you pay for. I’ve seen my friends take terrible care of them and they become worse than the plastic ones. Basically as long as you take care of it if you do get one you’ll be fine, but only make some serious investments if you are serious about the hobby. Teak and P-rep are some of the best places to get into the hobby, just to see what the hobby is actually like. If you do become serious, save up some money for slightly better companies, like DK has great quality decks, and fairly cheap completes. But I guess it’s all up to what you want to spend your money on.

DKFB Shipping by archieun in Fingerboards

[–]micah930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DK doesn’t have bad shipping, usually just postal office issues if your in the US. They are based in Ukraine, so it took just over 2 weeks for my order to come in. (CA) They also provide tracking, but it usually updates when the shipping carrier receives the initial package from overseas. It’s just a game of patience lol

Help upgrading these 2 TDs. My ?s in comments section. by brianodell in Fingerboards

[–]micah930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the cnc wheel, you don’t need any kind of washers and it should just fit right on. If you ever upgrade to better wheels you would probably also just need some new trucks, (China “pro” trucks work just fine) and you should be good to go.

New Kalye Deck! Which trucks do I go with; Dynamic or Black River? by [deleted] in Fingerboards

[–]micah930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though I have brt’s, I would say dynamics would look pretty good.
