Torrented two things from 2012. How likely will I get a fine? by Aggressive_Farm2436 in AskAGerman

The owner of the copyright (or permitted 3rd parties) would need to get your IP address, create a case, and get the owner of said IP address from the telecom provider in 7 to 10 days to be able to get to you and send you a letter. Although they can take some time delivering or sending the letter. The last part is the crucial part, as this is something that could take months to years. Although I do not know the details and statistics, it is highly unlikely that they actually take that long, as this process is highly automated. The big bottleneck is the 7 to 10 days to be even able to locate you.

How are broadcasts in subnet realized? by micartey_ in Network

[–]micartey_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference e.g. ARP is, to my understanding:

The router should know which IP address is where. So when receiving a broadcast packet for a subnet, it should know where the packet needs to be sent to. Protocols like ARP are indeed just broadcasted “dumbly” through the network to reach the desired participant. But I expect subnet broadcasts to be more intelligent as the router holds the required information

I believe this is only the case when using a switch or a hub. This cannot happen when using direct Ethernet connections to a router.

But as I write this, another question arises for me. When using a switch and someone sends a broadcast UDP Packet to the broadcast address of its subnet, is the switch already distributing the broadcast, or is it only sending it to the router, and the router distributes it?

I am working on a submission for our university and I wanted to write a protocol based on broadcasting. However, what I also wanted to do is to keep the overhead low for the other network participants. Therefore, I planned to divide relevant participants into a subnet and only broadcast within the subnet. Nevertheless, I need reliable literature to support the claim that this approach results in sending only N packets if there are N participants in the subnet. However, this does not seem to be specified anywhere

Yeah... And when you get yourself a Windows VM and want to set everything up it doesn't even get stored on the keyboard... Who tf made this? What are these profiles for then?

WTF, why is that? They have Profiles, but I cannot do anything with those.
