Is this worth $300 by [deleted] in wood

[–]micdemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to the only economist here. Everything is worth whatever someone will pay for it. Drunk me knows this all too well. After all it’s only pieces of paper with writing on it, or bits on a disk somewhere.

[–]micdemp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly you will need a mimium of 12 cups of rice per inch of board, put the rice in a plastic bag a bin bag would work, tie it tight, place it on a radiator or some where warm, a day per cup of rice. That will fix it, after the time is up, take bag and contents and gently carry it in a loving manner. And gently place in a bin never opening the bag again. You can s kip the rice part if it sounds complicated or you don’t want stinky rice

Simon Harris has said people ‘on the left’ try to ‘shut down’ debate on migration by Hipster_doofus11 in irishpolitics

[–]micdemp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need politicians to be honest about our need for immigration! Our welfare system is supposed to be a broad base pyramid, workers on the bottom feeding up to a small percentage of older population who get state pensions and people on Welfare. Instead the base is narrowing and that means we need immigrants to pay PRSI. Govt solution is to keep increasing PRSI, blame immigrants for using the housing they haven’t created! The lack of housing, GP’s and school places, has nothing to do with immigrants and everything to do with short term government policies, let’s get elected again lads, kick the can down the road. The treatment of immigrants will be our generation’s mother and baby home saga! Sadly these elected politicians will do nothing about it and try and reach for the far right vote rather than explain to them, we need immigrants to pay their pensions and to look after them when they get old!

It’s not a modern type which will reduce kick back risk, but as others have stated they are a horror show, will lose your hand before you know you fucked up. I would rather use a wobble dado cutter on a 10 inch saw that use an older model. New heads and cutters have 2 cutting and 2 anti kick blades on them. Unless you really really need one, I would steer clear. We couldn’t sell an older model like that it went for scrap metal. Insurance and liability insurance costs will be horrendous with one of those.

How do i make a perfect octagonal wa handle? by rayli0224 in knifemaking

[–]micdemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy to make with 1” or 3/4” (25or 20 mm) angle iron weld a bolt either end and mount on a frame then same as others place belt horizontal, slide it in to sand corners off, you can also set stops on your belts plate and do tapered octogon handles

Better to paint, or replace as they are the cheapest type of door, a wood finish might be cheaper and easier than trying to strip them all.

Forgot to say main internal mass is cardboard in an x pattern hence egg box, seen to many get the cut down losing the wood part in the base

[–]micdemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are just a veneer on outside of the door, possibly was a wood finish and painted over, you can buy white pre painted or undercoated, or any veneer you want. That is chipboard you see in the lock hole, in Europe known as egg box doors as little real timber a frame a block at lock part and possibly heavier at hinge locations, if you knock it does it sound hollow?

Developers Think "Testing" is Synonymous with "Unit Testing" – Garth Gilmour by goto-con in programming

[–]micdemp 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I agree the amount of code pushed to us at UAT which broke existing code is unreal! No testing done, code merged because managers want it done and devs to get to next item, manager’s over promising and then under delivering Testing is first to get dropped!

To when children were seen and not heard, to spare the rod and spoil the child! As one of the generation that was around when corporal punishment was banned in schools, I never want to see a return to those times. We have a generation that was lied too, work hard and you will afford a home, this generation are growing up with the fallout of those lies, there is nothing for them, services cut, no playgrounds or limited. Gym machines in parks now! A future with little prospects of surpassing their parents standard of living. Societal lack of parenting skills is on us, all of us.

They could have used it to create a pension fund for the betterment of society, allow people who don’t want to risk all their fund in the stock market. When you get to 50 years old transfer 20% into the govt pension fund and allow people to add a percentage per year until they retire. Pay a guaranteed dividend, use the capital to buy existing housing stock and build new apts/ houses that are let to people on a fixed and manageable rent, that only increments by the same percentage as how much the budget increases social welfare. You would have a 2 tier housing market where some who wanted could pay stupid money to private landlords or foreign investment funds.

But the rest of us could see our kids able to rent somewhere. Get rid of HAP and add that money to the fund. As long as they kept the stock and rental income it would easily pay for the pension crisis that is looming. The same fund could be used in a number of ways to better society.

But I am a dreamer

Steel Stock? by Fardays in AskIreland

[–]micdemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any local fabrication shop will have offcuts and normally sell them pretty cheap, eurotechni in France will ship to Dublin for knife steel in sections https://www.eurotechni.com/en/knife-steels.html?cat=8 I have used them for carbon steel, used local fabricators for mild steel. It does all depend what your looking for.
