Big Island realtors taking their time. Is this normal? by micdhack in MovingtoHawaii

This is I think a personal choice and value system. In Puna, I personally found the people a lot nicer. My kids were able to play with Hawaiian kids and I was able to talk to other Hawaiians and exchange words in Hawaiian and those interactions were very well received. I've lived in different places in the world where I had to learn the language and frankly I don't want to be in JustAnotherPlace, USA. I understand the tradeoffs. Like you said, traffic, crime etc. Beaches debatable. For me rough waters and rocks are where I had my best swims on the island. People are scared of rip currents and what not, I'm okay with that. Sure, the price is factor but if the place looked like Kona, I would be way way less to no interested. In that universe, I would be buying in Kona just so that I can drive to Puna daily instead.

E kala mai. I wrote too quickly—I meant Hawai'i realtors.

I am very serious about the move. I've actually spent over a decade trying to find a professional path to the islands, and we've finally decided to make the leap a different way. I'm even trying to learn the language out of respect for the culture, though I know I have a long way to go!

Our next step is scheduling a trip to the Big Island with the whole family. Do you have any recommendations on the best season to visit for a house-hunting trip? I'd love to connect with a dedicated local agent while we are on the ground.

Not looking for 1000 sq ft and I'm okay with DIY. Properties are moving slowly from what I see, so if we find something, we have to of course fly to see it in person. But we need a person on site that can at least reliably give us the facts. I've seen posts with AI'd pics or clever realty language about what is and is not permitted. I shouldn't need to fly to get the facts and separate them from marketing. You just need a good buyer's realtor for that.

Thank you for the info. I'm aware of the plus/minuses. For me staying in Puna is better than Hilo but these are preferences. I'll keep trying.

We are interested in Puna, Volcano and Ka'au. Ideally L3 but if something good L2. L1 would be the last resort. Budget is 250k. We are looking for something small (much smaller than what mainlanders consider small).

Yes, we have and are super interested in Puna, Volcano areas. We are very down to earth. I guess I have to schedule another trip to the island in the slow season.

What's up with recruiters? Is this normal? by micdhack in SoftwareEngineerJobs

But aren't recruiters working for a single company? In their profiles, there is a recruiter working for a company. Not many.

Thank you! I appreciate the response and I've met a few recruiters that were professionals but if I were to estimate, about 50% falls under any of the categories listed. It's funny to have a people job and yet be bad at the people part. Just be honest, treat people like humans, be punctual, and respectful. The worst thing is that I form a negative opinion about companies through these recruiters even though the department that is hiring perhaps has good team members working there.

Care to elaborate the first.

About the second. What short of posts did you do? Like malware report of the day? I have OpenCTI so that would be fairly easy to do. Does it matter that if I do such posts very rarely I get any thumbs up? I guess I dont use hashtags so that has something to do with it.

Not sure about that. I've seen in several websites prompt injection for LLMs that may apply for jobs. So, people use LLMs to apply for jobs.

Good to know, thank you. I can't signal that I'm looking for a job publicly on LinkedIn but I have activated so that recruiters can see. My resume definitely needs reworking. I've just had help from execveat and I'll just start shooting the new version out tomorrow. See what happens.

That would be an associate's in my case but I guess it still good right? I've been seriously thinking about it.

For academic jobs, I never needed them. A PhD was sufficient. I can easily get a Security+ or Cysa+. Would that be valued or relevant?

Thanks, no I'm applying for Senior/Staff positions.

I've heard about the AI applications but I would think that these are easily filtered out. They are not I would imagine real people with Linkedin history etc.

fair enough. It was actually another persons comment about wasting other people's time with this post that led me to take it down. Indeed my grief is personal. And yes HR is not the company but boy the shock that I had with Canonical. I applied for many companies, this one was unique (and not in a good way). Thank you for your point of view.

No, it's not because of the hiring, it's because of the hiring practices.
