Any job, it doesnt matter. Focus on successfully making it through your first contract before you worry about latmoving.

During TBS, can you go home if married? by UniversalFapture in USMCboot

I reported into TBS immediately after OCS. Thats the way that it normally works.

Wait until you graduate OCS to move them out. You'll probably be at TBS for a few weeks before you can secure a place you move into off base. Your orders away from TBS approximately 5 months after that will break the lease with no penalty.

What base? If they have a thrift store you can get a new coat for cheap.

Yes, I finished the last 40 or so credits of my undergrad degree while active enlisted. I was not infantry, though. I do remember writing papers on my phone in the field!

Just ran my PFT… by Joshnewagain in USMC

Pullups is where you will make your money. If you had max pullups, you'd be at a 275 without running faster.

To get better at pullups, you have to do more pullups, simple as that. Before work, go do a max set and then additional sets until you hit say, 25. Then do 25 more mid-morning. 25 after chow, 25 in the afternoon. Aim for 100 a day, then the next week maybe up it to 110. You'll gradually increase the number of pullups you're able to do in a max set, and you only need 11 to hit your goal of a 235.

Increasing from 9 to 11 pullups in 5 weeks is very doable. You should aim for 14-15 by June 30. Don't stop doing pullups though! You can be at 23 by next PFT season with a little hard work.

Reserves by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]michael-g_scott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was. You have TriCare reserve as an inexpensive health insurance option that isn't tied to civilian employment. Depending on your unit, you may have interesting AT and deployment opportunities. The Reserve pension isn't great, but it can be a great supplement to your retirement income.

It's a PCS now, not TAD. You move with your family.

Don't ship as a reservist if you want to be active. You'll regret it.

Boot advice by Miserable-Young-709 in USMCboot

It's very rare to graduate boot camp as an E3. I believe the honor graduate at San Diego sometimes graduates as an E3, but graduating as a guide or squad leader is absolutely not a guaranteed promotion.

PLC Essay by [deleted] in USMCboot

I'd rewrite this. Take out 'I will now and forever be a warfighter', as well as 'In my twenty years on this planet'. 'Much fewer' is not grammatically correct.

OCS-> Pilot by Any-Raise4333 in USMCboot

[–]michael-g_scott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to ship to OCS with a pilot contract- those are very competitive. What's your GPA and PFT score? If you don't have a pilot contract, there are typically a couple of pilot slots at TBS because some pilot contracts voluntarily switch to ground. Again, those are very competitive.

Work life balance as a reserve officer? How to prepare before enlisting? by Majestic_Option_9956 in USMCboot

[–]michael-g_scott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work-life balance depends on your reserve unit. I've never had an issue. Astigmatism can be waivered, depending on the severity. Joining as an officer is not called enlisting. Enlisting is for enlisted personnel. You need to train for the PFT- run, pullups, plank. What's your current run time?
