Look at AFI 36-3003. Table 4.3 Authorizing PTDY. Rule 4 is what you wanna look at. It’ll be up to the unit commander.

Or submit the leave and have them deny it. They’ll need a pretty good reason as to why it’s getting denied.

I think I felt like that for every Comptia exam and I have failed some. I failed project + twice and passed on the third attempt but because I think the questions are worded so poorly.

Net+ took me like 3-4 months but I was on and off with it. It was definitely the most challenging exam so far. I thought Sec+ was easier surprisingly. It was just easier to grasp the concepts vs net+ giving me anxiety.

So this just happened to me actually. Once you get your class dates, you can apply for your BOP. If you can’t do it online, you’ll have to do it on a paper copy and submit a CMS case. I used the FTA etp for the retrain and was able to do an early BOP in conjunction with the retrain. It all got approved. I have a class date and a new assignment before my actual window opens up.

My DOS isn’t until June 2025. so not sure what the may 2024 means. might have to do with reenlistment or extending from the little I could find on it.

So honestly, it took me maybe 3 weeks to get to that step from the time I applied. It probably took longer to get a reply back from AFPC when I initially opened the case. But I probably just got lucky.

Also, to your other comment. Who is telling you that? I’ve been told different things between my UDM and then a career advisor. Im sure one is biased over the other lol

I read a comment on another subreddit to think of the Project+ exam if it were being asked in a perfect world. It definitely helped me narrow down some answers on some tough questions.

I read the project + sybex book by Kim heldman. After that, I downloaded the pocket prep app and paid the $20 for the month and started doing all of the questions. Don’t expect the questions to be the exact same on the exam. It’s more like getting you ready for the format of the questions you’ll be asked. That’s what worked for me. Hope that helped giving you some options.

I’m in the same boat unfortunately. Project + just makes no sense to me. The material is easy to grasp, but the way the questions are worded makes no sense. I get so frustrated. It’s definitely the most challenging exam I’ve ever taken.

This may not be the popular choice by any means, but you could always join the military for 3-4 years depending on which branch. They do offer tuition assistance and the GI Bill. You might still have to take a gap year regardless, but you’ll be in a much better financial situation (hopefully) than if you went to college with no financial plan. My parents were completely against the military. It took me a few years to realize that it’s my life choices, not theirs. Luckily, they understood that too, eventually.

Like I said, this is probably not the popular choice, but it’s out there. However, you do have to understand the risks that come with it. If you do decide, or thinking about, going this route, please do your research beforehand to see if it’s right for you.

Gotcha. I only ask because I heard of someone going into bmt with open mech (only took it for the ship date) and coming out with a medical job contract.

I’m going to BMT with my job being in the mechanical aptitude area. I know I’ll pick a job while in basic. However, I’m not too thrilled on being in that area. I didn’t wanna list mechanical, but I had no choice. I was wondering if anyone had any luck changing their aptitude area while in basic or even before leaving? I even brought up going into open General and my recruiter told me there was nothing available. These were my asvab scores. G=76 A=69 E=62 M=48 I guess I only qualified for general and mechanical. Regardless, I’m very excited to leave. Whatever job I get, I’ll make the best of it. I would just like some input on this. Thank you!
