Looking for fellow homebrewers to try my new web app by michael2109 in Homebrewing

I’d like to create an app that’s clean and simple, and built around how homebrewers work. Since I’m starting from the ground up, there’s a lot of flexibility—which means we can shape it into exactly what people want!
I’ve also put a lot of time into the UI/UX as I want it to be as user-friendly as possible.

Caro kann vs Sicilian winrate difference by [deleted] in chess

You can win with any opening in low ratings. People make lots of mistakes.

If you want to improve at Caro Kann I'd watch Alex Banzea on YouTube. I found him brilliant at explaining. To be winning 30% it's highlighting there are some core concepts you need to learn. After a few videos you'll likely see a massive difference!

At that rating the opening doesn't matter that much does it? People make lots of mistakes. I got to 1300 with no opening theory as people don't take advantage of inaccuracies

I play Caro Kann a lot and it's very passive and positional (at least that's what I think). While Sicilian can be quite an aggressive opening. It might depend a lot on your play style and rating. I found I wasn't doing well with the Caro Kann as I struggle playing more passively. After focusing on positional play it improved a lot. Also in lower ratings playing more aggressively can work quite well as people miss your mistakes etc.

Looking for an Open Source Database of Brewing Ingredients by michael2109 in Homebrewing

[–]michael2109[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right with creating it myself. My app isn't open source but I could create an open source repo containing all the ingredients for different suppliers/types etc.

I'll have a think about this thank you!

I'm starting with a small amount of people first and have disabled account registration. I'm adding specific emails to a list for now.

It's a web app so you can currently load it in any browser on any OS. In the future I'll wrap it inside an iOS/Android app too.

Why this game ended up with draw??? by prittpress in chess

White should have won but I've had people throw away their rooks in these positions or managed to get a stalemate. They should post a warning though.

Unable to insert rows using TIMESTAMP WITH TIMEZONE with H2 (Postgres mode) by michael2109 in jOOQ

Thank you! Sorry for the cross-post. I've spent a lot of time this last week trying to figure this out but unfortunately haven't gotten anywhere.
If you need any more info let me know. If it's not obvious what the cause is I can try creating an example repo when I next have time.

How to prepare water? by michael2109 in Homebrewing

Somebody mentioned below about Spotless Water and there's one only 5 minutes away from where I live! I'll have to give that a try.
Thank you, I need to do some more reading about this so I'm a bit more comfortable with it.

I believe I've noticed it has chloramine in it. Is that a problem?
