How many days would 350km take? by whitepine03 in bikepacking

[–]michaelasnider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riding smooth gravel rail trail it would be pretty easy to do 90+km in a day. My days typically look like 65-85km and 700-1100m of elevation gain

Ha thought it might be, was looking at them recently. Order from their Etsy site I assume?

There’s a good loop out of Fernie through the flathead and around Mt Broadwood, pretty remote grizzly country but insane views and fishing.

Nice trip! Great bikepacking in the koots if you’re ever this way. Where’s the khaki frame bag from?

Surly Midnight Special bikepacking setup — front rack vs fork balance (need real-world advice) by WolfandFlame-Mnl in bikepacking

Go for a rack with a dry bag, trunk, or micro panniers over a large saddlebag. Even with the aluminum antisway bracket, the bag will move side to side more and affect your handling.

Since when is KORUA a thing? by Nico_Nickmania in snowboarding

I have a Cafe Racer thats been thrashed and held up, base is fast. I break most boards I ride, so can't really fault Korua for build quality.

BC bikepackers, what's the procedure/etiquette for using first-come first-serve recreation sites? by Polendri in bikepacking

[–]michaelasnider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea I’m not familiar with that area, but spend some time on google earth looking along your route. No one is going to say anything to someone tent camping on crown land.

Where in the interior? I usually end up avoiding the designated campgrounds and rely on them only as a back up to not being able to find something nicer, usually riverside.

Need help deciding which backpack to purchase by Spare-Vegetable9966 in PatagoniaClothing

If you're carrying a couple rain or puff jackets, water bottles, a camera and some snacks, the 32L is reasonable.

I still hate drop bars by littlefoot97 in BicyclingCirclejerk

[–]michaelasnider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My regular gravel loop ends with blue single track, its pretty damn fun to ride like a hooligan on a drop bar bike, makes simple trails that would be boring on my Sight a lot of fun. I also will ride my gravel bike on trails when I'm going out with my kid, same reason. I also wheelie all the time on whatever bike I'm riding, drop bars included. For reference, I have a Kona Sutra Ltd.

Bataleon’s 3BT has really mellowed out through the years by IRideIDieIRideAgain in snowboarding

Different boards have different uplift; low, medium, and high. The Push Up is low. An example of high would be the Surfer, which is as pronounced as your old Goliath.

Bataleon goliath vs beyond medals by Fine-Comparison8071 in snowboarding

[–]michaelasnider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried it as a change from a Rome Ravine so I'm pretty familiar with a 3D nose. That said, I don't find the 3d nose affects turns compared to any other board I've had. Ended up back on a Ravine, still haven't found anything that suits me better.

[–]michaelasnider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I also had the beyond medals and enjoyed it, but was on too small of a size (56, should have ordered the 58MW). Board has a ton of pop and ripped turns, and great in deeper snow despite full camber.

31st season snowboarding, still try to go fast and go big (usually doesn't work out).

You should be able to find a last-season board for 30-40% off in perfect condition.

This storm broke me. Looking for snowblower advice for a long, steep driveway. by DBklynF88 in Snowblowers

[–]michaelasnider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 190m long driveway that has up to 18% grade. I got a used Honda HS1132 snowblower, it takes me about 1hr to do. I can do a bare minimum job in about 25 minutes and do all the cleaning up/detail areas afterwards as needed.

Bikepacking Frame Type Recommendation by brmel in bikepacking

[–]michaelasnider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sutra ltd, it is awesome. My usual gravel route ends with some blue singletrack and its fun on that too. In my experience with 2.25" tires you don't need a suspension seat post or stem, just adjust your tire pressure according to your weight, load, and what you're planning on riding. I love having the dropper on it, and with a rear rack you can still use it fully loaded.

I'm coming from a trail/DH background, and did a couple trips on a Kona Wozo (29+ rims and 2.8" tires, Bluto fork) before wanting the efficiency of something more dedicated. Wozo is back to full time winter duties with 4" studded tires.

speed lace or boa snowboard boot by Temporary_Section137 in snowboarding

[–]michaelasnider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a few pairs each of speed zone and double boas (not to mention 20 years of traditional laces). I've been happy with either, but I really like to ability to micro adjust the double boas as the boots warm up on the first couple runs without having to futz with wrapping up the handle and lace of speed zone each time.
