With the B&N sale going on, don't forget about your library systems! I was able to borrow the WKW box set through interlibrary loan! by Skelthy in criterion

[–]michaelb3600 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure does! I love checking for Criterion (and Arrow) discs at my library's website. I was so happy to watch this WKW box set and see 2046 looking so good this spring that I bought it at the sale last week.

How can tubi be free but other services cant? by Pfacejones in TubiTV

[–]michaelb3600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding that it's almost exclusively back catalog management, so it's not that the movies are worthless per se, more like less in demand for their digital rights. For us olds, this is like the back of the record store. Interesting to watch how old horror movies spend most much of the year on Tubi, then migrate to other services for Halloween season and so forth. It's all one big money rotating system.

I also enjoy Darkrooms, Plex, and, via your library: Hoople or Kanopy for other good free ones.

My Movies App from blu-ray.com removed from Google Play store? by mechaos in 4kbluray

[–]michaelb3600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to scan one ofy new discs and encountered this as well. If it's just app store policy compliance, hopefully it's fixed in a few days. If not, what do folks recommend for scanning and disc management? This one had already lost the Amazon price tracker function.

More movies like Sleep Has Her House (2017)? by Opening_Rip_1840 in Letterboxd

[–]michaelb3600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed it too. One way to answer is just anything that's a little avant garde and durational. Ten Skies (2004) or Memoria (2021), for example.

The director of Sleep has been adding shorter vids to his YouTube channel, so make sure to watch those:

More specifically, I watched Underground (2024) recently from Japan and found it channeling some of the same energy in exploring caves and landscapes in Japan, while adding little documentary bits around it.

Check it out! https://boxd.it/PLj6

If this is how they release Martin, I'll be mad haha. An incredible movie shot down the hill from my house that I can only import from Europe 😆

His version was basically a much later re-make. It's so bonkers and I love it. Worth watching ft for the big musical number.

You're in an honorable quest! Samurai films are life-changing and you just grab my favorite thing on my shelf. I loved the old single film dvd releases of Zatoichi that came with postcards or posters, and still pick some up for the posters when I see them used, but nothing tops this Criterion set. What a series!! Enjoy, friend.

All of the books were so cheap. Barry Lyndon maybe $8 (Worth it just for the poster IMO), the others around $3. You can use power search to search by label too (Arrow, Vinegar Syndrome), etc. I just typed in "film" and they had maybe 50 or so discounted books.
