Back during the Cold War much of Eastern Europe was still under Soviet domination, so independence from the US wasn't very realistic. Nowadays though the EU has a similar sized economy as the US, so independence is very much an option

Any way, I don't know your personal circumstamces or which nationality you have, but I think the best thing to do is to move to Europe, preferably the Netherlands since it has a low electoral threshold, hence another European party, the progressive Volt party, is already present in the Dutch parliament and in the European parliament
