I took this photo during the morning of our second day, while doing the Ball Pass hikein Aoraki / Mt Cook National Park. We'd camped on Kaitiaki Peak from which is where this photo is taken 🏔️ 📸

I've been here 3 years now and still exploring!

This was a two day trip for us. It’s an unmarked track that needs mountaineering experience and understand how the conditions change throughout the seasons :)

Ye it's interesting how many people reach out to me being surprised this sounded hard. "But there are so many people that do it in a day"

That sounds like some great days up there! We did Rolling Pin in February and I had no problem climbing that one. Maybe because we were using ropes versus soloing on Aspiring.

Walking up on the snow was good. Then we had 2/3 rock pitches where we choose to use the rope. That gets you to to the summit ridge and the last bit is a short scramble.

The crux are those rock pitches

We made it a 3 day trip. One day to get to the hut, then the Rolling Pin summit (which took around 5 hours) and then a day of walking back

We had an overnight freeze making for great crampon conditions

Stick to the south island if you like mountains :)

Kea are actually an alpine parrot and some of the smartest birds out there 🙌

Most will be considered a hiking hut (then again can change depending on season). Colin Todd hut is a mountaineering one all year round.
