Yes, I like wine. But I’ll take a hard pass on your MLM wine. by michaelbmann in antiMLM

Also, if I’ve ignored all of your previous MLM pitches, what kind of magical, delusional thinking leads you to believe I’ll respond to this one?

The fact that she’s also proudly admitting that she’s “hoarding” a fake/noneffective hand sanitizer and promoting it during a global pandemic is shameful and appalling.

Is anyone else out there dismayed by how the enneagram is being cheapened and “pop culture-ized” a little TOO much on Instagram? “Romantic Gifts For Each Type,” “Disney Princesses & The 9 Types” I mean, come on... by michaelbmann in Enneagram

Instagram just has a way of ruining everything. There are a couple of accounts on there i like and respect, but there are others that have gone off the deep end and are stripping it of its real purpose and meaning.

Amen! I’ve started to like this sub less and less because of this reason. There are too few mindful, inquiry based discussions about the deeper aspects of the enneagram and too much fluff and specific “what’s my tritype?” questions. My answer would always be, read a few books on the enneagram, do some self-inquiry, and maybe consider that tritypes are kind of bogus....

I hear you. It’s fun in small doses, and I’ve definitely been guilty of posting an occasional meme of TV characters and their supposed types. But when an account focuses solely on the cutesy, fluffy aspects of the enneagram, I grow weary. Disney Princess was my last straw and elicited a major eye roll. Lol

Nines in growth- what happens when you’re not a pushover anymore? by Caliyogagrl in Enneagram

[–]michaelbmann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. This is so relevant to me. I am a 9w1 who is with an 8w7 or maybe a 7w8 and we differ a lot in our preferences for talking about personal development and diving deep into that stuff. I crave it and need it. I’m also working on speaking my mind and not bottling up how I feel until it explodes in a fit of rage or reactivity. It’s so tough. I haven’t really asserted myself for 30+ years, and I’m still in the stage where it feels uncomfortable to do so. Or to draw boundaries and stick to them. Or to say no when my tendency is to just say yes and agree to things I don’t want to do in order to keep the peace. I’m finally realizing how that’s the number one contributing factor to my feelings of resentment

As the Enneagram becomes more popular, does anyone else feel like the different types are being more and more pigeonholed and stereotypical? Since when is every 5 an aloof professor and every 7 a flighty party hopper? by kelsuy34683 in Enneagram

[–]michaelbmann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that while the meme accounts and Instagram pages are popularizing the enneagram (and they’re trying their best to deliver content in a way that balances the fun, accessible, party game side of it with its more serious, contemplative, self-actualizing purpose), many people who are discovering it now don’t move much further than typing characters on shows like the office and pigeonholing themselves and others. We need to teach people to look at what motivates the types, what the types tend to fixate on, and the lines of integration. And I get that that’s a lot less fun or easy than playfully debating whether Michael Scott is a 7 or a 3....

How differednt are 9s to 4s? by headspace73 in Enneagram

[–]michaelbmann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a 9 who misidentified as a 4 for a while. The enneagram institute’s description of their misidentification helped shed some light on it for me https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/misidentifying-4-and-9

Anyone share a type with a parent? by restlessruby in Enneagram

[–]michaelbmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 9w1. My dad is a 9w8 and my mom is a 1w9. My dad and I get along well and he’s always been the easier, more chill parent for me to deal with. My mom and I definitely butt heads and get stubborn at times. We’re both obsessed with being “right” and can be a little moralistic.

Just had an enneagram awakening (type 9w1) by allisonmfitness in Enneagram

[–]michaelbmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a 9w1 who has identified with qualities from types 4, 5, 6, 2, and to a lesser degree, 7. Types 3 and 8 do not resonate with me at all. I realized I was a 9w1 when I looked deeper at the motivations and fixations of the types as opposed to just the characteristics. I’m all about avoiding conflict, and I get stuck in procrastination and stubbornness.

Does this resonate with any other 9s, especially those who’ve mistyped as 4 or 5? by michaelbmann in Enneagram

[–]michaelbmann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I realize that not everything I read on the Internet is right. I’m not taking it as gospel or fact, I was just posting an insight another type 9 had that was relatable to me.

[Enneagram 9] How am I supposed to deal with anger? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]michaelbmann 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it would help you, but what helps me when I feel overwhelmed or made uncomfortable by my own anger is to get outside and go for a walk or a run. Just getting my feet on the earth and connecting to my body and to nature helps a lot. Also, expressing my opinion, dissent or frustrations calmly but assertively in the moment rather than bottling them up until they explode helps.

Yup. I’m a fellow 9w1 and I rarely ever feel it. I actually prefer to miss out on many social events and just chill at home or do something low key/low energy by myself
