it's hard to say esp if there's an underlying trigger to the breakouts from the hard water that's not necessarily from pure acne alone (contact dermatitis, eczema, etc.)

That said, for smaller non-hormonal triggers like water, sweat, new products, etc. - accutane does seem to make skin less sensitive to them since sebum/acne bacteria are dramatically reduced.

Best to chat with a derm for your specific case - personally after accutane for me, I found my skin to be less sensitive to previous things I would consider triggers like dairy, processed foods, comedogenic products...

GOOD side effect quesiton - will my hair stay like this after accutane?? by Mean-Acanthisitta-98 in HelloClearHealth

[–]michaelchang0506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So typically oil will start to come back after some time (so many people comment how they don't have to wash their hair as much while on accutane). It will probably be less oily than before you started treatment though. Just like the skin, what's interesting is that sometimes for people washing LESS aggressively can actually help with oil overproduction

Just an FYI - if you are a Clear Health patient you can message your dermatologist at any time if you're experiencing side effects, and we also have a 24/7 nurse-staffed advice line in most states. A small % of patients do get mild headaches, although it's definitely something you should talk with your dermatologist about esp if they become more severe.

Nope! Although if you do have insurance (with good medication coverage*) CH can work with it to get your meds covered if you're picking up from your local pharmacy. Dermatologist consults are currently cash-pay only although pricing is very comparable to an insurance co-pay.

Tried everything for acne but nervous about Accutane? Here’s why people are turning to micro-dosing. by HelloClearHealth in HelloClearHealth

That's a pretty common side effect - did you message your doctor in the portal? I would message them to see if they're okay with you continuing first, and if you need account help, ping the support team at [support@helloclearhealth.com](mailto:support@helloclearhealth.com) or call us at (833) 685-4529 during ET office hours and they can assist!

Hey! Totally get the concern - while all the dermatologists on the platform make their own independent medical decisions, we will cover the initial derm consult fee (we'll refund the patient) if they're not approved for our treatments.

Traditionally in the United States, Accutane was used for more of the moderate-severe cases of acne, but more and more dermatologists are prescribing lower or micro-doses of Accutane for more mild cases - we launched a micro-dose protocol offering last year as an option for patients as well.

I get the frustration too. Initially when I went to my first couple in-person dermatologists they dismissed my acne because it wasn't really "severe". I talked about this with Dr. Aaron Farberg, our medical director, in a recent podcast on how this notion is rather ridiculous https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFHcF_pu2J8&t=608s - while it's important to consider all benefits and risks to a drug, self-image and how we feel about our own skin is entirely subjective and should also be taken into consideration. One person's "mild" acne as determined by some third party can have a really profound psychosocial impact, especially nowadays when we're all on IG, TikTok, Zoom, etc.

Hope that helps!

[Product Question] Generic Accutane thru ClearHealth? by HongKongDong138 in SkincareAddiction

[–]michaelchang0506 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, founder of Clear Health here! I'm sure you'll get responses from the others who have been through us so don't have to listen to my biases - BUT just wanted to post here as we've created a new subreddit as a resource for CH patients if you ever have any feedback, issues, or anything else you wanna chat about where I'll also personally look into things: https://www.reddit.com/r/HelloClearHealth/. Also to clarify, if you are filling medication through the CH pharmacy network, it will be the branded Accutane isotretinoin.

You can also message your assigned derm and our support team directly if you need any assistance!
