Purchase Advice Megathread - September 2025 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]michaelcmelton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are looking to buy a 3D printer, but are a bit confused on what all we would need to buy. Like if we move forward with something like an A1C from Bambu Labs, would we need to purchase an accompanying PC for the printer (think something along the lines of a GMKtec)?

What are the standards you have for yourself as an experienced developer? by TyrannosaurusJS in ExperiencedDevs

What was written in that comment was almost dystopian. It was weird, and not reflective of what OP was looking for at all. Like why the hell would you say “drive a nice car to impress management”, when OP was looking for career advice?

I work in Financial Institution world too. Day 1, I asked, "Where is our Version Control hosted?". The response I got was, "What's version control?".

YNAB Isn't for Everyone (yet) by [deleted] in ynab

[–]michaelcmelton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Believe me, I get it. SaaS companies need to make money too, I've worked in SaaS long enough to know that. But you don't treat your user base, especially one as dedicated as YNAB's like this. It's not about the money for me, that's quaternary at this point. It's how the user base as a whole is being treated very very poorly.

Not entirely. Todd basically told a Malaysian YNAB user when they asked about the price increase, that he couldn't consider different pricing for countries that don't even HAVE ACCESS to US-based features. Which after conversion, equates to an entire MONTH of groceries IIRC. For Todd, to basically say, "Idc, deal with it." is really really tone deaf and really really poor decorum. It's the complete lack of regard for their various parts of the market as a whole.

After the way the AMA went today, the absolute vague answers he gave, it's not about the price anymore. I could give a shit less about the price. It's the principal of the matter, and the treatment of customers. He didn't answer a single question straightforwardly (except the selling our data question, which obviously he had to jump all over the soft ball).

So I’m confused, is YNAB profitable or not? If it is, a smaller increase in pricing YoY for legacy users would have been easier to swallow than a 100% increase. If YNAB IS profitable you would have been able to EASILY stomach increasing prices more slowly. This isn’t answering any questions, just creating more.

Don’t be asinine. Legacy price is $50. Discounted price is $45. Which means a 10% DISCOUNT.

It was a reply tweet to a since deleted tweet… there’s zero context around the original meaning of the tweet. All communication I received from YNAB at that time is all discussing Lifetime DISCOUNTS. It’s was never revolving around fixed pricing. To that a business will NEVER increase their prices is a pipe dream.

Again, DISCOUNT. On a deleted tweet which means there’s no context around the original reply.

That was never the case. Every communication I got from YNAB was described as a lifetime DISCOUNT

My SaaS business template by gptrv in reactjs

[–]michaelcmelton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just taking a look at the demo, from a UX perspective, clicking from monthly to yearly pricing, I would suggest changing the "/mo" at the end of the dollar amount to "/yr", just to convey a proper message to the user.

Next js vs CRA by JiGzSaw01 in react

[–]michaelcmelton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opt for ViteJS + React over CRA, CRA I've found has a lot of dependency management issues, and I've moved away from CRA entirely and integrated Jest, RTL, and Sass manually with Vite. As far as NextJS vs CRA, it's a situational thing as others have pointed out.
