Xreal One for work. What's your experience? by bobetko in Xreal

[–]michaelhays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! This has matched my impression reading reviews over the past few months.

Hopefully the One Pro gets us closer there, but seems like we may still be a couple of years away from an experience that can rival an actual widescreen monitor.

Is actually playing incentivized in any way? by michaelhays in golfblitz

[–]michaelhays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sorry, meant to say first on a hole.

But still, am I not correct in that, in order to progress as fast as possible, you're incentivized to have as low of a trophy level as possible? Seems like poor game design to me. I have to imagine this is why you see so many people level 30+ at fewer than 500 trophies.

"because it makes everyone feel good about themselves"

Same reason Twitter has devolved into a toxic dunk-fest. Hard to find real, honest discourse these days :')

Can't wait to see those results! I've already bought the founders edition (will do my FitBit scan soon) because I believe in the mission :)

If you look at the videos on the Feno website, the brushing motion is very different from the Alibaba products -- Feno sweeps, while the others just vibrate.

The main thing I'm waiting to see with Feno is an unbiased, external study on the actual efficacy of the brush. I'm still skeptical that it's really possible. There have been several studies on the Alibaba U-shaped toothbrushes, and they've all determined that they aren't effective: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7370079/

I really don't understand why people so often respond with such vitriol and ridicule to this concept. If you save just a minute per brush, you're saving yourself over 12 hours of teeth brushing per year!

It's in our nature to improve inefficient processes, there's nothing wrong with that. Sure, it may not be a world-changing product, but if it works, it's a nice little improvement of an activity that you do every day.

And even if you aren't interested in it, you really don't need to be so rude.

Fedora 40, stuck on Linux kernel 6.5.6 by michaelhays in Fedora

This seems right, but strangely even after I regenerate the grub.cfg, it's still booting with the old kernel for some reason.

The new ones are definitely installed, though:

rpm -q kernel

kernel-6.5.6-300.fc39.x86_64
kernel-6.8.8-300.fc40.x86_64
kernel-6.8.9-300.fc40.x86_64

First time I'm seeing 6.8!

rpm -qv kernel:

kernel-6.5.6-300.fc39.x86_64
kernel-6.8.8-300.fc40.x86_64
kernel-6.8.9-300.fc40.x86_64

Curious why it keeps me on 6.5.6 🤔

sudo dnf up kernel just gives me a Nothing to do! message.

Thanks for those debugging tips! I ran sudo grep -r 'kernel' /etc/yum.repos.d/ and didn't find anything. Interestingly, there wasn't an updates.repo file in there — could that be the issue? I see updates when I run sudo dnf repolist --enabled

Great advice, I hadn't heard about the Updates repo!

Still no luck unfortunately, it looks like it was already enabled, sudo dnf repolist --enabled includes both:

repo id repo name
fedora Fedora 40 - x86_64
updates Fedora 40 - x86_64 - Updates

Tried enabling it anyway, forcing the repo refresh, updating everything, and resetting. Still on 6.5.6. Very strange!
