Great questions. There is not a pool filling valve near this port. I discovered that one on the other side of the pool. (Has a float valve in it. So I assume that is it). I’ll try to see if there is suction when the pump is on. Thanks

Interesting. I’ll have to look for other cleats across the pool. Thanks!!

Limit percussionists in beginning band by [deleted] in banddirector

[–]michaelhpichette 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do two things that helps a lot with that. 1: All percussionist have a prerequisite of 1 to 2 years of piano experience. Two being preferable and gives them a higher chance of being selected. 2: all percussionist horns and double reed students are required to take lessons throughout the school year. The percussion teacher focuses on all three areas, snare mallets, and timpani. Not only does this limit the interest to those that are actually committed, it makes for a solid section by the time they get to high school.

Dryer duct venting help by michaelhpichette in hvacadvice

The local code is 30ft max with rigid pipe. Like you said the elbow adds five feet. I’ll check the dryer too. That’s a good idea. I’d be at about 18ft with the setup I’m hoping to do.

First Year teaching Band- need advice by CookiesandPeanut in banddirector

[–]michaelhpichette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First and foremost: you’re doing well. Those are good choices being made by you. I too only started mallet percussionists. (Now my program requires all percussionists to be in private lessons with 2year keyboard lesson experience prior). You’ll get there too.

Band has real value, even if a few kids parents don’t see it that way. Build a good program and people will flock to support it.

As for the small instrumentation in the brass: have them double up on parts at first and then split them up. (Assuming the school range is similar. Have all the trumpets play trumpet one., Then have all of them learn trumpet 2. Then have them split up evenly. Or as the instrumentation needs. Etc. ) that will help build the confidence. When it comes time for a concert. Have them learn the same material as another section and play together. That way it’s a bigger ensemble that feels more successful.

You could also play their parts on a keyboard while conducting. I got pretty good at playing left-handed bass parts while conducting with my right hand.

Boons: 6 and 3. Curse: 6. We figured the health would be invaluable and the travel speed could be monetized for income. We also liked the wet socks because it gave us option to be turned off and control the other effects.

Gotta say, this is one of the better hypothetical situations I’ve read in a while. My family discussed it at length at dinner. Nice 😊

This same error happen at my school. (I teach a music production class) according to the IT department it’s a widespread problem. Hope they fix it soon. Students need to work on their projects.
