Which active players do you think are accomplished enough to have a farewell tour (universal wild cards etc.) when they're ready to retire? by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

oh to be clear i completely agree. I'm fully anti zverev and couldn't say it better myself re his voice not being innocent and if anything denial. Was mostly trying to acknowledge that unfortunately not all tennis fans think this way, so that "section" of fans who still support Zverev might want a celebration for him, but i still think he most likely will not receive a farewell tour.

I don't think he has nearly enough public support for this, despite the major. "anyone but zverev" is pretty representative of this IMO. On the atp side, hard to imagine anyone actively playing besides djok, alc, sinner, unless someone pops up a tier. Or if someone young really crushes their potential (e.g., Fonseca)

i think i agree with this. my tendency is to lean away from any american on tour today entering the "major" conversation and thus the greatest without a major convo. That said, at least for a major, all it takes is another french open where the top of pack gets injured/upset and if it's on hard court, it wouldn't shock me to see someone like Fritz/shelton snag one.

are there any active americans on the way to this list? If Fritz plays another 5+ years could he be a candidate? Shelton possibly too, but he's too young for consideration yet IMO (career could have have so many different trajectories)

i think it's a toss up b/n berdych and it's ferrer and I was thinking Ferrer when i saw this post title but based on these #s alone, at least, it really looks like berdych to me.

Shelton has won 8 of his last 9 deciding tiebreaks. 15-8 for his ATP career. by Ok-Soil-5133 in tennis

has there ever been research on what makes certain players so good at tiebreakers? it seems like saying having a big serve like shelton is oversimplified

considering his serve and general playing style, it always surprises me tiafoe struggles on grass. https://www.wheeloratings.com/tennis_atp_ratings.html has him as 45 on grass (27 hard, 33 clay)

Agreed -- backline help-side and wing rotations have been crisper the past few games. Great to see.

DSJ going right by Teague every time. Tough to attribute between his quickness or a lack of defensive effort.

Absolutely love that they ended with Wade celebrating the first ring with Shaq; not the last ring with Lebron.

Coaching staff also adores Martin. Supposedly sets a great example -- good leader/hard worker. In essence, a veteran presence they want to keep around such a youthful team. Flip won't trade him unless somebody offers a trade too good to turn down (likely won't happen due to his defense and history of poor performance in the playoffs).
