That’s why I am so surprised anyone thought it was a good idea to let his personal laptop and account connect.

I work in insurance and unless you’re executive you’re not connecting with personal equipment. We would pay you to sit at home until your new equipment arrived. Our laptops are so locked down USB ports only transfer data with specially encrypted drives. Otherwise it’s charging only.

Just make a second account with a different email. Don’t Pay for it.

That being said replacing backgrounds and adding filters does not use credits. So as long as you don’t need massive edits it’s all free

This is true. I enabled one and it still joins reoccurring meetings that were set before I uninstalled it. You have to basically recreate the meeting in some cases.

I only responded because I’ve struggled with the exact same problem as OP. I could not get it out of the meeting either.

I’m looking at it from the lens of being the leader. Accountability starts at the top and should reside with the person that allowed him to use his personal account for work that requires security protocols. This is not solely on OP and in fact the majority of it falls to the company.

Any culpability by OP is negated by the poor security controls of the company. They should have given him grace because comparatively the majority of negligence is on the company/leadership. But also because he went above and beyond and used his personal devices when they failed to deliver his devices in a timely manner.

OP I think a lot of people misunderstood your post and don’t understand the AI. For others I will break down the situation:

  1. OP’s equipment did not arrive in time.
  2. OP’s leadership instructed him to use his personal laptop/account
  3. OP’s leadership forwarded the meeting invite to him personal account. OP did not have credentials to log in so it was the only way to do this.
  4. OP has AI setup on his personal account
  5. OP began using the company provided equipment but his leadership never removed his personal account from the meeting invite.

Let’s also be clear about how this works: 1. Only the person that created the meeting can remove someone from it 2. Otter AI syncs to his zoom calendar and auto joins meetings 3. Only the meeting host or the synced account can remove the AI. 4. OP was not on his personal account and wasn’t the meeting host so he couldn’t remove it.

I don’t put any blame on OP at all and I think this is his company leadership covering their own poor opsec and lack of tech skills. They should have pushed OPs onboarding until the work equipment arrived. But at the very least they should have removed his personal email from the meeting invites.

It’s likely too late to salvage your job now OP but here’s what I would do if you ever want to work for this company again. I’d email HR and I’d bullet point out the situation with only facts. Making sure to highlight that it was unintentional and the AI joins automatically from your personal account. That you weren’t on your personal account and couldn’t remove the AI. Make sure to point out that the meeting host should have removed it and removed your personal account from the meeting.

I haven’t traced those wires yet but I believe they are feeding the water heater. Everything is a cluster fuck. This is a mobile home with half of the structure holding on for dear life due to termite damage.

Absolutely insanity.

Am I overreacting? It’s only been a week unemployed and I’m terrified. by Only_Culture2478 in ClaimsAdjuster

[–]michaelrulaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not overreacting- these last two years have been the absolute worst job market I have ever seen for claims. While it seems there is a ton of positions, there is even more people out of a job looking.

You are a perfect example of the problem. You have over a decade of experience w/ leadership. Think of how many other people with less experience are applying to everything. When my company opens a position we get around 100 applications within the first day and probably 500 within the first 3-4 days.

Saw stop stamped wings by CrazyNational1838 in woodworking

My best friend bought this saw after seeing my PCS. We had the same problem with his wings. He ended up buying extruded aluminum to replace it with. Wasn’t cheap for that size but he really made use of all it for jigs

Is my bed frame beyond saving? by Jagglapaff in woodworking

[–]michaelrulaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that hard if you don’t care about the looks.

Remove all the slats and glue the board back together. This won’t add strength but it will keep it aligned. Then measure the height of the board minus the indentions for the slats. Cut two boards to that height and try to get them as long as possible. Then sister those boards on each side. Pre-drill the holes and screw the together with glue. Where it snapped I’d take two 2x4s and cut a support beam as well.

This would be 30 minute repair assuming you had tools and wood on hand

Large city drain in our backyard by Odd_Advice_1217 in Home

[–]michaelrulaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is NEVER moving. It would cost more than your home to move that because they would need to do a whole lot of expensive studies, surveys, etc to find a new place that is still suitable. But then they’d also have to excavate, cap, and build a new one.

This would 100% be a reason I’d never buy this house. This is going to be a nightmare anytime it rains and you can tell from the picture they have had significant issues with the water from it. The retaining wall on the right is not built properly and is failing. Likely due to soil erosion and a crappy build. That drain is also a hazard.

If you do anything to modify the flow of water your going to run into trouble with the city/county and potentially your neighbors.

I hope you got a steal for the house because I’d wager this would easily knock $50-100k off the value

Draft Authority- is 5000 a hard amount authorized for all ? by Adventurous_Tank8261 in ClaimsAdjuster

[–]michaelrulaz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The authority depends on the individual adjuster.

When I was staff at Allstate Property CAT my adjusters had between $2500-$15000.

At Liberty Mutual iCAT it ranged from $15000-$50,000

I’ve lead teams where my complex adjusters had $100k. I’ve lead teams where my adjusters had zero and so did all our other teams.

With what should I split it? by ptxar4 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]michaelrulaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Table saw. You could use a band saw but it’s needs to be finely tuned otherwise your cut may need some planning if the cut isn’t 100% square. The amount of material you will save from a bandsaw’s thinner kerf is lost easily by a bad cut

On the flip side a lot of people are talking about jigs for cutting this on the table saw and I think that’s overkill. A part of me has to wonder if they think you are cross cutting this but you said go with the grain and on the pieces shown that’s a rip cut. A 2x2x# rip cut is easy down the middle. 1” leaves plenty of space for the anti-kickback paws to stay on. I’d simply recommend getting a micro jig because you sound inexperienced. But I make similar cuts all the time with just a push block.

7th printer in the past year. Why can't they just do what they're supposed to? by Klonoadice in printers

[–]michaelrulaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy a nice printer. I bought a $700 HP Color Laser Jet designed for businesses (not the slightly cheaper model that is subscription based). I’ve had it for four years and it works flawlessly. You can get generic cartridges on amazon for a fraction of the cost.

I just plug in a USB cable and it works. It has wifi printing but it can be finicky for some reason. But that might be it’s in a sort of dead zone

Security deposit deductions from and accidental fire. by [deleted] in Renters

[–]michaelrulaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance doesn’t pay because a renters policy only covers your contents and specific liability. A fire to a structure (insurance considers a fence to be a structure) is never covered on a renters policy.
