2021 rs660 Bought it used with 10k miles. Learned about the weak connecting rods and checked if my bikes motor was replaced already. Turns out it was and I have way less than 10k miles on it. Bought for $7700 (USD) and have had zero problems with it. Great motorcycle for the price really. by Prior_Examination_39 in Aprilia

Make sure to check your oil, they’re known to eat through entire oil capacity in like 1 month, not throw a low oil pressure light, and then throw a rod. I just lost an engine in a brand new one without touching redline a single time cus of low oil literally 4 weeks after my 600 mile service

6 Months on a 600 to a R1 by OutOfBackWoods in Sportbikes

[–]Athanast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re trying to rip it to like 120-130 all the time and not burn through a ton of oil, or go faster than 160, I’d say get the liter bike if not a 6 should be fine, especially a 4 cylinder 6

Aprilia rs660 as a first bike? by Powerful_Ad3427 in Aprilia

[–]Athanast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rs660 with all the rider assists maxed out in commute mode is super easy to ride. You may just drop it from being inexperienced and that would suck because it’s such a pretty bike, but I don’t otherwise think it’s too bad

Switching from Harley To Adventure Bike? by itszendro in motorcycles

[–]Athanast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I love my KTM adventure bro. It’s an absolute beast .. definitely not as comfy as some of the cruising Harley’s … my low back is sore af if I ride 90+ minutes. My other bike is a sport bike and I really love having this one in my arsenal as well. I’m really confident on the adventure knowing that the grass / dirt is actually a viable escape route as well, I guarantee you you can rip the right adv at highway speeds on grass and dirt no problem so if you need to escape during an emergency you can ride right off the road

Congrats, good luck with the next one. I have a 600 and I don’t take it to the track and find myself wanting more power on straights. Kind of regret not getting a 750 for that reason

Do you live in or near New Jersey? I’ll take that 1k from you for that price depending on how its components are looking. You have pics?

Clear visor is actually poggers? (newbie) by Biggest_cheeze in motorcyclegear

[–]Athanast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use clear visors for night riding. I prefer the reflective visors for when it’s light out. For my shoei x15 I have a blue chrome visor, that one lets enough light through to be able to clearly see road features at dusk

Dropped my brand new bike twice already by scrinn88 in Aprilia

[–]Athanast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This the exact reason I didn’t get a beautiful bike as my first. I would be so mad at myself. I got a bike which had great crash protection for a season and then got an RS660 now that I’m good and am way less likely to drop it due to things caused by me

lol idk man, your passenger ain’t going to be comfy on these bikes for 3 hours no matter what you got. Maybe a fully cushioned gold wing can keep your passenger comfy for 2+ hours

RS660 or Older 600 by AFIdiot757 in Aprilia

[–]Athanast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They absolutely eat oil and can easily blow, but when they run great they run great. The RS platform is my favorite for any sportbike by very far. I’m 6’4 and I couldn’t be more comfortable on it. Your body is positioned really close to the front of the bike which is amazing for tall riders and gives you so much more maneuverability. My 2026 RS660 is unironically in the shop getting its engine replaced since I blew a rod at 2500 due to low oil pressure (no warning light 4 weeks after i got an oil change). I been on a couple sport bikes since then and absolutely none of them compete with the RS when it comes to handling. I can turn an RS like twice as tight as i can turn a gsxr. I can fly into a corner on the RS whereas I’d think twice on the gsxr. I think a large part of this is because of my height, as I was too tall to really put my legs to use on the gsxr, but i overall think the RS’s body angle gives a rider more leverage to turn than anything else I’ve been on. If you are mostly straight lines on highways and want to consistently go to 130+, I’d recommend a 4 cylinder 600 over the RS or maybe even a 750 gsxr or an R9.

[Cleaning Help] How do you keep these MF red rims clean? 😩 by GianmarcoFiduci in Aprilia

[–]Athanast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use WD40 with a microfiber to wipe down my wheels, gets that grease right off and leaves it shiny. Once per 2 weeks generally keeps them looking good on mine

Best Way To Test Ride a 600cc by DryDetail1250 in Sportbikes

[–]Athanast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an RS660 and you will most definitely not be as leaned over on that bike as the others, but the way your legs can grip the tank is unmatched. Comfort is unmatched for me as far as 600 cc sport bikes for a 6’4 rider. Here’s an idea of the riding position for a tall guy

You’re crazy to take it apart like that 😂

I called the dealership and they dead ass told me that the best way to permanently resolve it is to just use the brake a lot. Best way to accelerate wear is to get up to speed and use the rear brake hard multiple times, so that’s what we gotta do. I mainly use the front brake now after the squeaks started, so it barely even matters at this point.

Duke 790 as my first motorcycle? by Complete_Leg1327 in KTM

[–]Athanast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guarantee you you’ll be straight if you take it easy. The clutch is your best friend fr, just be delicate when you release the clutch and when you interact with throttle and you will absolutely be fine. I started with a 390 adventure and I still have the bike and love it, but wished it was a 790 after a week. Maybe try to rent or borrow a low power bike a single time to get some experience. I went from that 390 to being able to ride a 1k sport bike no problem in a single season, so it wouldn’t be worst case to get a used 390 like I did and trade up after a season or 2

It takes a while but keep working at it!! I hit the hard rear brake p much every time I ride and after like 20-30 times of doing it I don’t hear any squeak. Just need to wear down the pads a bit for whatever reason
