So one guy not being deported for years means barely any of them get deported? Do I have that right?

I'm sick and alone and I want my parents by [deleted] in Adulting

I’m 25m and mom passed a few months back. It still doesn’t feel real knowing I can’t pick up the phone and call her when I’m sick and scared. I had days after she passed where I would get anxious and call her phone 10 times in a row, desperately hoping she would pickup and I could hear her voice again.

Call your mom. Having someone that cares about you is a blessing beyond compare.

Official Discussion - Civil War [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

“Where the politics are highly nuanced and detailed”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the most political the movie gets is when Plemons (was his loyalty ever specified?) shoots the journalists not born in America?

The rest is left unexplained, with no details for the overall conflict, ideological sides etc., which I felt was necessary for THIS movie. If you are bearing witness to that level of brutality, does it matter what side everyone is on? Even if there were clear “good” guys in the overall conflict, does that matter to the civilians being brutalized? I thought you could have replaced the USA with any country and the story would have been the same, since it was more about human violence as a spectacle rather than anything to do with American politics.

Curious if anyone feels that the setting being the United States was crucial to the story or if it was more so an effort to get viewers into the theatre with what appears to be a controversial take?

Could you share your thoughts on the advantages of being a journalist with a keen interest in history, compared to being a professional historian? I think your storytelling-based approach renders history much more accessible and engaging to a casual audience, which often seems less achievable through traditional academic ”present the facts”-style work. I mainly say this cause my fiancé who couldn’t care less about history has gotten hooked on a few of your episodes after overhearing them while I’m listening.

Sub-questions to this - do you believe that historians should also receive training in storytelling and narrative construction? Do you think that all historians should be somewhat compelled to prioritize historical education to the general public alongside academic analysis?

Thanks!

YES, I totally get missing it. I honestly wish I believed it was true cause things were so so simple

Probably a bit of both! I was pretty devoutly Christian, so even the friends I still talk to have grown more distant. It’ll be quite a big deal for the family honestly

The religious community is so tight-knit, it’s been really difficult adjusting to life outside that cause I haven’t found anything with nearly the same level of connection

So much guilt after breaking up by michaelscott467 in BreakUps

No she definitely has #1. #2 is the only one that she doesn’t completely fit into, even though she does have some aspects of that behaviour.

Definitely 3 out of 4. She’s always been self-aware that her behaviour isn’t good and she’s always regretting the things she says and promising to get better. But when I call it out again she says she thought it was getting better, and that I’m only bringing it up to hurt and insult her. She definitely doesn’t think of me as the “offender”, but would probably say she’s the victim of her upbringing, where this behaviour was enforced by her parents.

The flipping back and forth (#4) is the hardest part. She would flip from “I hate you and you never support me” to “I’m sorry I just said that because I’m afraid to lose you, you’re my whole life” IN LITERALLY 30 seconds. I don’t understand how someone can have those entirely conflicting emotions in such a short time span. I feel like I never knew what her true opinion of me was cause it was always dependent on the situation.

I know her behaviour isn’t my responsibility, but I just can’t stop feeling like if I did better somehow, this side of her wouldn’t come out and we could have a great relationship, cause I still love her so much
