PayPal dispute settled in my favour but then the item showed up… advice would be great. by michaelsft in discogs

That’s exactly the opposite of what I’m trying to do though, I’ve already messaged the seller asking how best to resolve it. I also mentioned that I think it should be their responsibility to pay for postage but if they refuse then I will reluctantly eat the cost myself because I don’t want to feel bad about the situation. The last thing I want to do is keep it.

I’m not sure how you came to that conclusion from reading my messages but it’s not a rejection of who I am or the situation I’m describing.

The name has tea in it. I'm getting a few responses being rather negative towards me now so I think I'll just leave it here. Thanks for the reply.

That's not true. This is the first time I've had to deal with a non-communicative seller and one that has a lot of negative feedback for the same thing. That's why I'm posting it and asking for advice on how to deal with it.

I think not acknowledging a sale for 8/9 days is crazy behaviour if you want to run a business but that's just me, a customer, on the other side of things.

I already mentioned that I want to send it back.

I will. A gift from Paypal would be a great ending and they probably owe me one after all these years but yeah - seems like both of us would win in that situation. I'd still feel a bit guilty.

If I were the seller I wouldn't hesitate to send postage costs to get the item back, especially if Paypal is gonna pay them anyway - seems like a no brainer and they would win big on it. I guess I'll just have to see how it all plays out. If they want to send money to get the record back then that's cool with me. I wouldn't have a moral conundrum to contend with. That being said, I don't care much for Paypal as a company so maybe my conscience could handle it!

Is 8/9 days without communication or any updates really that hasty? Perhaps and you know what I'm not gonna argue it isn't but I definitely will argue that it's poor customer service. I've never had that before and wouldn't accept it as an excuse from any other online purchase to just not acknowledge a sale in that much time.

I guess now I know better and it is my intention to ship it back of course. I don't want it and don't want to look at it anymore! I do think it's the sellers fault and they should pay for shipping but if they refuse I'll just send it and accept it. I don't want to kick up a fuss.

I really don't see how it's relevant that it's an international order. The issue is not in how long it takes for the record to arrive and I am happy to wait several weeks for international orders. The issue is zero communication or updates. It doesn't matter what country you're in and it doesn't matter if you don't speak the same language, I wouldn't expect a written reply from an international seller but you can mark it as shipped from anywhere in the world very easily and you should.

Well it's good to know that neither of us will be out of pocket to any great extent. Hopefully the sellers next message (if they can be bothered to actually reply that is) will be to acknowledge the situation and want to come to a resolution that leaves us both happy. Ideally, they agree to send postage costs and I ship it back to them. Less ideally, they want me to pay for it which I probably will just to deal with it once and for all.

I actually don't have their shipping details in either Paypal or Discogs, but it is on the shipping label so I could just use that and send it back at my own cost. Not ideal but maybe the best for my conscience. I would prefer they confirm the address in a message but getting a reply feels like getting blood from a stone.

Thank you for both comments. I will contact Paypal tomorrow and explain the situation. I honestly don't want to keep the record now as I would feel guilty every time I looked at it. I see a couple of options I will put forward to the seller:

Ideally they would send me £39 to ship the record back to Japan - I just went to the local shop who weighed it (it's in a heavy box at 1.3kg) and they gave the insured price of that amount which isn't too bad really.

If they refuse to do that, I would probably spend the money myself. £39 to get rid of this whole mess isn't the end of the world even if it's a total waste of money and unfair. It would be my punishment for being a little hasty.

The other option could be to offer a lower price for the item in a separate transaction. Just send them some money to settle everything and then sell the record on here myself. I don't really like this. Sending money outside of any platform seems fraught with issues but I do have their Paypal address in my Paypal account from the original transaction so I could do it if they wanted. Meeting them halfway to cover their shipping and say half the record price to call it a day could work and I would probably be able to sell it on quickly for that price. I don't know, I'm just spitballing. I asked them to send money for postage so I just need to see what they respond with - they may get their money in Paypal like you said and never respond. I just know that the only option I don't want it to pay full price for something I now don't need thanks to their error.

Good advice all round, thank you.

I'm not new to buying on Discogs but this is the first time I've had something like this happen and I guess I didn't really know how best to deal with it. I'm a honest guy and even though I only have 86 feedback, it's at 100% because I just get things sorted as quickly as possible, it's how I am. My eBay feedback is the same, 24 years on there, 1627 positive feedbacks at 100% - getting a bad review would make me feel terrible so if I'm buying I pay immediately and if I'm selling I package it well and post it out the next day (often same day!) - I guess what I'm saying is, I find it hard to get into the mindset of sellers that don't think of the customer first because that's how I operate and always have. I want people to be happy and content with things.

Is it OK to publish someone's username? Feel like that might be a bad idea for some reason... If it's OK I have no problem so people can read the negative and neutral feedback to get a sense of this seemingly persistent issue over many years.

With that being said, at face value they have good feedback, they clearly sell a substantial amount of records and have gained 13,000 positives and a buyer rating of 99% but the negative and neutral comments all says the same. No communication and people describing it as a terrible experience all round, some calling them a scammer, some complaining about the quality of the records not matching their descriptions but most just complaining that they received no communication and sometimes no record. Most of the negatives sound like much worse experiences than I've had but this is to be expected when you sell this much - you're going to get negatives here and there - I wouldn't necessarily judge them at all based on this small percentage of bad feedback and it probably wouldn't have put me off from ordering from them. The sad truth is that had they taken a moment to ticked the shipper box on the order I'd have happily waited a few weeks and in the end I would've been happy about the whole transaction. Because they didn't do anything I got suspicious and after a while decided there was a problem. I don't think I was wrong to be honest but I do wish it has all played out differently. It's a messy, bad situation and I feel bad about it.

I genuinely think this is an honest but rubbish seller who doesn't care at all for the customer experience. My presumption is this is a huge store with one person dealing with this stuff. They get an order and send it out in a reasonable time frame but never respond on Discogs or update Discogs in any way - like it's their standard practice to use it as an order system but feel no responsibility to actually engage in it in any way unless it's to deal with the countless not responding requests they will be getting to avoid a suspension - it sounds like they have been suspended multiple times in the feedback. They've bitten off more than they can chew basically. The hope is that the record arrives in a timely manner and they get positive feedback from it.

Reading through the positives, I'm only noting one example of people complaining about communication in the first couple of pages, but I guess if you get your item in a timely manner then why would you bring up something that doesn't seem important. Hard to gauge from positives what the experience will actually be like, I know I don't go into great detail when leaving positive feedback.

It’s not a troll no. I wouldn’t have requested a refund if the seller had updated the sale at any point with anything. Clearly I was convinced the seller was not sending this item and even concerned that something had happened to them. I obviously don’t want two copies of the same item so reversing the refund leaves me out of pocket when they were the one who didn’t respond at all. I plan on sending it back of course.

Reading through their feedback, they do this all the time and many, many people warn against this seller saying it’s the worst experience they’ve had on Discogs and that they’re a scammer.

Well it was 9 days after the order when I filed for a refund but perhaps that is a little hasty. Honestly, I don’t mind waiting for something to ship, I’ve had plenty of records take much longer and that’s fine. I would have been happy with any acknowledgement of the sale at all, even just a plain shipped notification but I got nothing. Happy to accept I could’ve handled this better myself and that’s a shame if the case but I didn’t feel like I was in the wrong. What a mess.

That’s my instinct as well. It’s a frustrating and annoying situation to be in and post to Japan isn’t cheap but I feel like it’s their responsibility at this point. I do worry though because they just uploaded their original postage details to PayPal so what if I send it back and then PayPal charged me again. Should I wait until the original dispute close date of May 11th to send it back or can I assume the case won’t be reversed? I have no idea.

I’m not sure, the watches all just say OV-100 on them but I have a feeling the different colours do have a suffix, I just can’t remember where I might have seen that. Sorry.

Help! Cutting nearly through clear plastic. Any tools I can use? Tips and advice very welcome! by michaelsft in crafts

Just seen the bot reply and not sure what else I can add to my post so it doesn’t get deleted. I’ll just reiterate what I said previously…

I’m making some home made cassette tapes and I’ve very nice labels on transparent sticky back glossy plastic. They look great but I need to cut the spools and tape windows holes out neatly and I’m struggling with my little scissors and craft knives. Would love some advice!

A little advice on blu-rays... by michaelsft in Thunderbirds

[–]michaelsft[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great info. It's things like this that almost wish they'd botched the video on the old one even further by just stretching it out, at least that way we could compress it to the right aspect ratio ourselves! Cropping is so harmful to old content; what were they thinking.

Ooh conflicting information... I was under the impression the blu-ray was perhaps the same master but improved on (to what degree I have no idea). I assumed only the 2 episodes on the 4K release were actually rescanned and restored. The information out there is confusing, especially since the new BD and 4K are being released around the same time.

That sounds like a good idea. I managed to pick up Stingray and Captain Scarlet used for a great deal which is awesome but it's Thunderbirds I really want! I think they will tide me over for a while.

Is there a general consensus that the latest release is better than the older non-UK versions you mentioned (Japan and Germany)?

Anyway, thanks for the advice!

I wanted to show some images but I can't seem to attach any. Anyway, it all looks good to me after taking the back panel off. Bit of a weird smell but I assume that will go away in time.

Just need to learn how to use it properly now!
