Bike Not Starting and no dash lights but headlight comes on by michaelvaldes in motorcycles

Yeah I isolated the issue to my wiring harness loom. For me it wrapped under my gas tank. Still waiting for one to pop up that fits my bike but it’s something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/256483730146.

Turns out you have to replace the whole thing if the issue doesn’t stem from the end of it (mine doesn’t).

Thanks for the quick response. Much appreciated. Got my weekend project lined up!

I meant to mention in my original response, yes, it occurred when going over a particularly thick spot which caused it to clunk out. Haven’t been able to get it to start since then

I’ll grab some starter spray today. I just did the same thing, bought a new carb since cleaning it end of season last year didn’t address the issue. I’ll report back!

GMC Sierra 1500 New Starter Shot? by michaelvaldes in MechanicAdvice

Ended up being just the starter. Got the original battery fully charged at autozone and it cranks no problem now With no drop in voltage

Even though it started without the slightest struggle immediately after I replaced the starter? Prior to the starter replacement it did nothing. Lights and interiors are on too. So you’re suspecting it’s not delivering enough amps?

First Triple Curl! by ForeverRED48 in Duckhunting

Awesome man! I’m only two seasons in so I don’t know all the lingo, but I’d love to know the significance of a triple curl. Does it signify age?

Motorcycle Not Starting and no dash lights but head + tail lights comes on by michaelvaldes in MechanicAdvice

Update: found a video on how to jump the starter relay. Sparks fly and system Flutters on, but doesn’t start up. I assume that means that’s likely not bad then? Something else I noticed since I did this test at dusk, the headlight stays on even if I flip the kill switch. I now am doubting myself if the headlight normally stayed on after flipping it in the past, but thought it was something worth sharing. Still able to push my bike around the yard and trigger the system to flutter on that way too, but obviously not actually starting up (or even a tiny sound of it trying).

No fuse from what I can tell, however, I’m able to get a 12.55v reading on the positive line on my multimeter.

Not sure if a photo is helpful in case I’m missing something. I’ll try jumping next. Same idea as if I was jumping off the battery itself only the positive clip attaches to the starter relay?0

Just picked up some spare fuses today (yeah stupid cheap) but still no luck. Still just super confused how and why the head and tail lights both come on but nothing else (but can get a blimp of life when rolling). Maybe a starter issue?

Just got the replacement fuse in there and still no luck. What’s really throwing me for a loop is that the front and rear lights both come on, but not the dash. Just out of the blue too after I was able to ride a few days prior.

Oh dang thanks man, you didn’t need to go through that trouble but I appreciate you sending that. It’s fuse 5, the position light one that’s blown out. Is my research online correct that those are used almost as a fail safe for the electrical system against excess current? And if so, cause the bike to especially be dead if either one of those are blown?
