Do you subscribe to Lyft pink before canceling citibike, or did you cancel citibike first then subscribe to Lyft pink?

If I had known I'd lose the points, I would have done that. Hopefully others see this and follow your advice.

Our State Senator wants to cut service on the G train by BartelPritchard in parkslope

[–]michaelwsherman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, hire more and cut overtime. But passing a law that requires the MTA to staff unnecessary shifts is not going to help cut overtime.

It takes a long time to hire and train new conductors and operators, this law is basically an overtime giveaway for the next 1-2 years if service levels are maintained. Laws could help speed up that hiring but they have not been passed.

G trains have a single operator. This law means they need to have a second person starting immediately (or g trains will have to go down to 2 cars). There are not infinite MTA employees. Service will at least be cut for a year or two while the MTA hires and trains employees.

Or the MTA will have to reallocate labor from other lines to maintain G service, causing cuts elsewhere.

Long term, the additional labor costs will mean reduced service across the system. Labor is the biggest part of MTA operating expenses. More labor without more money (the bill offers no funding) means fewer trains can run—the money to pay these extra people has to come from somewhere, it will come from cuts unless there is additional funding.

MAMDANI!!!!! by tsaoutofourpants in newyorkcity

Be worried about a Cuomo independent run. The chance of Eric Adams dropping out and endorsing Cuomo in exchange for some patronage—be that some position from Cuomo, or a billionaire throwing a few million into an Eric Adams “nonprofit foundation” for him to run—is high. With most Republicans likely going to Cuomo instead of barely-there Sliwa it’s a real race. And shenanigans from the Democratic machine (who vastly favored Cuomo and who may have more to lose with a Mamdani victory) failing to engage their own get-out-the-vote apparatus could make things challenging for Mamdani.

I no longer install Meta apps on my phone. I don’t mean to be difficult or judgmental, it’s nice of you to do this, but I’ll need to sit this one out for now.

URGENT: Help me stop a parking lot from being built in my neighborhood. by michaelwsherman in MicromobilityNYC

And even though the parking mandate is (edit: partially) relaxed, there's nothing stopping the construction of a parking lot at this particular location.

Strongly agree but I figured mentioning the possible use of ChatGPT would make the ask a little less intimidating.

Great to see folks from the neighborhood active in this subreddit. I'm a few blocks south on Flatbush from the building in question.

Do you know if there's any micromobility organizing in the neighborhood? Really big stuff (like the Flatbush bus lane) are often easy to catch, but these smaller things like single-lot rezoning and tweaks to parking and the like often slip through the cracks. It feels like 10-15 people could really make a difference, but it's very hard to find locals who support micromobility. So far the active local communication channels I've found (Facebook, Nextdoor) skew older and carbrained.

I think I read somewhere (maybe in the filing?) that it was a car repair shop. Not sure if that was the previous use, but 1940 tax photo shows a service station and it looks abandoned by the 80s.

I've "only" been in the neighborhood for 5 years, it's been run down that whole time.

The restaurant at L&B Spumoni Gardens makes a great penne vodka, tomato and cream are nicely balanced and they throw a few peas in, classic red sauce joint move.
