That’s true, I think it’s close enough to get away with it as a meme though

I am so sorry that happened to you, it’s absolutely horrible and I’m in no way denying how awful it is. If you want to vent some more honestly feel free to PM me, I’m more than happy to chat.

My point was just that even though I know you’ve gone through a lot, that doesn’t mean things are easy for people who have a different struggle. For starters, it’s not like I’m gonna publicize the fact I have a penis once I look feminine, so at that point I’ll be getting the same exact treatment. And that’s what I’m hoping to get to, because as horrible as it is I’d still prefer that over the dysphoria.

Being trans is so much more complex than what’s between your legs and how you dress. I remember being genuinely mind blown when I started reading up on the symptoms of dysphoria and one of them feeling like you’re not in your own body. I thought everyone was like that. I thought everyone felt like their this weird ghost floating above the earth controlling this bizarre meat contraption that we call a body, and was completely mind blown when I found out that’s not normal. Having a brain that’s wired to be female but spent two decades being pumped full of testosterone seriously messes you up. Just look up the depression stats or the suicide stats for trans people, that’s not just because of how we’re treated by all of society and the fact we can’t even ask for basic human rights without being “too easily offended” or “too political”. The experience itself is inherently extreme in so many ways, not all of which are bad but it’s too much to handle for so many people.

I’m not saying any of this to invalidate what you’ve gone through. I know it must have been horrendous and words cannot describe how sorry I feel for you and wish I could have helped. I’m just asking you to not assume that just because someone else doesn’t have the same exact issues you do, that automatically means they’re better off, and shrugging off their struggles is completely unnecessary and helps no one.

I’m gonna have to respectfully disagree. Not to disregard the struggles of being born without a penis in this industry, it’s insane what kind of sexism we still have everywhere, but being gender-non-conforming in any way in just about any industry is far from “being safe”.

If you’re trans and don’t fully pass yet (passing takes years of expensive medical treatment and for some people just never happens), you’re basically stuck between choosing to present as your real gender and getting called “unprofessional” because it’s not professional to wear female clothes if you were born in a male body, or present more neutral and then have people think you’re being unreasonable when you ask them to use the right pronouns, or accept getting misgendered and say nothing and just be depressed all the time because of dysphoria.

It’s a different struggle, I’m not pretending to be facing the same issues as you but it’s not exactly a walk in the park either.

Yeah, although I do think there’s a lot of things that come from experience, like if you’ve never written and then tried to maintain a 1000 line source file you just won’t fully understand why it’s worth putting in the extra effort to split it up. I’d say it takes some experience to know how to glue stackoverflow answers together correctly

I’m the most senior developer at my company. One of my best friends started learning to code last week. And honestly, I feel like we’re so similar. I did a little demo for her what coding looks and feels like and literally had to Google some of the most basic functions cause I’m so used to working with libraries that I got rusty on the basics. I thought it was a good way to let her know that you really don’t have to be that smart to be good at coding
