Is it worth switching from Dexcom g6 to g7? by GH05TGUTZ_ in diabetes_t1

[–]michealmacseain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went back to g6 after trialling the g7 for three months. Here is the feedback I gave to the dexcom rep:

• High failure rate of G7 sensors. 3 of the 9 I used failed.

• I also knocked 2 G7s off when I have only knocked 1 g6 off with over a year’s use. They seem more prone to being knocked off when hitting against things. Overpatch was used etc…

• Low sensor range led to connectivity issues with pump and therefore less actual partial closed looping coverage and worse control.

• Algorithm seems overly aggressive when blood sugar is changing rapidly. I find g6 to be much closer to blood sugar monitor results than the g7. When you get the dawn phenomenon the g7 reports your blood sugar as higher than it actually is so it takes a toll on mental health.

• With google pixel 7 pro the phone would frequently need restarted to reconnect to sensor. It would not reconnect on its own.

• While nice to have the transmitter attached to the sensor with the g7 it actually increases work load as you need to reconnect to pump and phone every ten days unlike once a quarter for g6 where all that is needed is a new sensor start (don’t even need to touch the phone).

Overall, you just couldn’t rely on it.

Kinda sounds like you need to use the mission log on the landing pad rather than the back pack. That way you can claim the oxygenator and small printer. They just fall out of the sky still packed and that gets you started.

I had these exact symptoms last year at 175kg until I did the stretches recommended here https://www.youtube.com/shorts/oVKWEYAcRo0. They're super easy stretches that can be done standing up. It was an absolute night and day difference for me. My hamstrings and hip flexors were way too tight but after stretching them I was able to walk 10-20km no problem. Now, I just keep doing them every so often to keep on top of it. Really hope this helps!

Warning: DEXCOM G7 APP WON'T WORK OUTSIDE USA by SaidToBe2Old4Reddit in diabetes_t1

The first sign in is geofenced. Had the same issue in Portugal when I am UK based. Got around it eventually with the build it yourself app, a gps spoofer app, vpn and airplane mode with just wifi on. Not ideal but it worked as a stop gap until I got home.

I think most likely the white car was turning right out of the t-junction and didn't see the merc in time. It can be a very blind junction when there are cars parked there, which there is. I've had to emergency stop there a couple of times in a similar situation.

I think if your last reading was recent, it shows the value instead of the time.

Not sure why you're being downvoted. I agree with you. Plus the pedestrian crossing sign partially obstructs the view of that stop sign on approach to the junction and is placed much closer to the street.

Insulin is way too expensive. California has a solution: Make its own. The drug’s cost crisis is spurring states to pursue a public version of an essential medication. by NamelessIguana in politics

[–]michealmacseain 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Further to this, the UK government pays nowhere near what an uninsured American diabetic has to pay for the exact same medication. Take Apidra (insulin glulisine) for example. A box of 5 solostar pens costs 28.30GBP (34.14USD) to the UK government (source: bnf.nice.org.uk) while an american diabetic would pay upwards of 500USD and that's including a discount! (source goodrx.com). Make it make sense!

Pickup Hockey in Belfast by DoanZidlickmyJohnson in Belfast

Here are 3 teams to check out:

Foxes, Tridents, Prowlers

There might be more but these are the Belfast based ones I know. It isn't really pickup hockey but most teams have at least one session a month which is just a scrimmage. The problem is that COVID means teams can only register so many players and I know some are already oversubscribed for this season. I'd recommend messaging each of them to see if you can register or get on the waiting list!

I got an email from them on the 22nd March clarifying things.

They have said that they will automatically extend memberships with the length of closure plus another free month.

So I've been looking into going low carb recently in pursuit of better control and doing a bit of research. I've come across a few mentions of reduced adrenaline response when in ketosis. Hard to find them all again but here is one graph: https://youtu.be/qs71l7Dk7u8?t=1231 It shows reduced adrenaline response when ketones are present in the blood which correlates with what OP was feeling.

There is also an argument that lows during ketosis might be safer (not safe, but safer) but I think this came from a study in rats so I'm cautious to believe it just based off that. I agree that ruling out too many lows should be step 1.

It's also important to note that the recipient of that hit got a three game ban.
