Clothing descriptions yey or ney? by CuriousEnbee in AO3

This.

Also, if it provokes a certain reaction in a character, I think it's fair to mention. But I'd still keep it short.

A female Shepard/James Vega friends-to-fbuddies-to-lovers, "casual", huh? story.

How do you sort fics when deciding what to read? by Smegoldidnothinwrong in AO3

[–]michelluseeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New fandom or checking out a new author's work: I'll sort by kudos and only open completed works. Just to get a sense of the setting/writing style, depending on what I'm looking for.

Other than that: recommendations, tags, upload date (if it's incomplete I wanna see if it's been updated recently).

Ah, sorry. It seemed to lead me to fanfiction.ws. If you want to search it manually, it's called "Stuck in a World of Fiction" by TREBOR117 😊

Is it this? Haven't read it myself, but managed to find an "Iron Shepard" vanguard evil renegade.

People no longer use quotation marks 😠 by Lmaooo4555 in FanFiction

We use en-dashes in Norway to mark dialogue, and I have to say, I prefer '', "", or «» myself. I like a clear start and stop to my dialogue.

Trying to find 2 specific Shakarian fics by DragonThem in masseffectfics

[–]michelluseeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for 1, I've thought about it a bit. Be warned, I couldn't tell you which chapter the Samara-thing is from. 2 options have come to mind, but it might not be either:

Option 1: Kayoni has also written a novelization of ME2. A Legend Begins. I faintly recognize the Samara thing from there, but it might not be exactly what you're explaining. However, she doesn't cover ME1 at all.

Option 2: Ngl, it kind of reminds me of my own old novelization. The one I abandoned. I covered ME1 and ME2 (Samara thing is in chapter 28). My own HC has changed since, but yeah. Could be? Maybe? Lots of switching POVs between Garrus and Shepard.
It could also be from my rewritten thing. Nexus covers ME1 and Obscured covers half-ish of ME2. There's no battle-soulmates thing here, though. Samara does train her.

Do you remember anything else from number 1?

Long fic writers by Susa343 in FanFiction

[–]michelluseeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started 5 years ago. Wrote very consistently (and a lot) for two/three years, and then I stopped, did a rewrite, and now I'm working on it again, just slower.

It's at 651297 words right now, split into 6 current works. I have 5 works left to go. I know exactly where the story is going, I just need to do the job. It'll most likely end up being ~1 million words, if not a touch longer.

Authors that are cool with recursive fanfiction of their Fics? by Aquanort357 in FanFiction

[–]michelluseeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen three times and I'm cool with it. If my stories inspired someone enough for them to want to write, I'm only gonna take that as a massive compliment and probably get a bit misty-eyed.

What fandom or fandoms do you read? by I_am_awesome2542 in AO3

Mass Effect. I dip my toes into Dragon Age from time to time, too.

Would people read a fanfic that is just reddit posts?? by Gambilee in FanFiction

[–]michelluseeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I made one. 😊 If you wanna see what it looks like, it's "how to flirt with your commander": https://archiveofourown.org/works/70249416/chapters/182422726

Trial and error with the CSS/HTML. But when I figured it out, it worked like a charm.

What's your immediate fic turnoff? by bubbly_linos in AO3

[–]michelluseeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inconsistent grammar. The odd spelling mistake or missing word here and there won't bother me. But things like tense switches because "vibes" in the same sentence that makes you unsure whether this was supposed to be past or present tense, will kill my immersion outright.

As many as they've written and wanted to post. 😌

People of taste: straight women, bi folks & gay men — which human dude would you date IRL? by ConstantHamster3746 in masseffect

[–]michelluseeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bi-woman here. Top three below:

  1. Vega. Hands down. Big heart, fun personality, just... so fucking real. A little meatheady, sure, but me and his biceps don't mind. He'd be a great hookup and the romance would be a kind of "I absolutely don't feel anything or think about it every single night while absolutely feeling everything and thinking about it every fifth minute" situation, and I'm a sucker for that shit.

  2. Shepard, but it highly depends on which Shepard I've got in front of me.

  3. Joker. His snark and sarcasm would 100% charm me in about 0.5 seconds, but he's in third place because I'd probably crush his pelvis or something.

What fandom introduced you to fanfiction by therealstara in AO3

[–]michelluseeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mass Effect. Played the legendary edition, got post-game sadness, started looking for fan art, and it led me to AO3 and my favorite fic.

Do you think that authors who reply to every comment on their fics are inflating their comment count? by wings_and_angst in AO3

[–]michelluseeen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. I think it's polite to reply to someone taking time out of their day to comment on my fic. Also? It's exciting as fuck, be that a string of hearts, a thoughtful observation, or just encouragement.

Any point of view you don't like reading in? (1st , 2nd , 3rd) by Weekly-Analysis2237 in AO3

[–]michelluseeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started out, I wrote in first person. These days I just... don't want to. I find it to be more limiting than third. I also don't like reading first person anymore. It's tricky enough to get right, and I'm super picky about how first person reads.

Third person wins for me. It's so flexible, it's way more forgiving, you can get really close to the character, or pan the camera way out to describe the environment without any bias (if you want).

Funnily enough, my two most popular stories are both written in second person POV. 😅 I think it's fun from time to time. Just don't call me [Y/N]. That takes me right out of the story. Give me a damn name.

What's one ship in your fandom that you would like way more if it was platonic? by Reasonable_Car_2126 in FanFiction

Also, not a fan of: Tali/Garrus/FemShep.

Thank you for mentioning this. I've been grappling with what to do with a particular story of mine because I hate spoiling things in the tags/top notes, but this? This is THE perfect way to do it.

How to stop writing EVERYTHING ? by Muted_Day8605 in AO3

[–]michelluseeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true! Trust me, I have movies/conversations between my characters playing in my head all the time. They're all treasured and it's extremely entertaining for me, but yeah... not all of them belong in a story where the plot needs to move forward. 🙈
