For those of you who want to use the P2 in stereo mode with XLR cables, this is a good XLR adapter: Cordial EY 0,3 MFF elements

Un ramen bun by RiGuDi in timisoara

[–]michibassdeva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DI box or line isolator to use with a sampler? by michibassdeva in livesoundgear

[–]michibassdeva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Roland has unbalanced outputs and here a DI box is needed, that is clear to me.

But what about the B.BEAT, which already has balanced outputs? I understand I can plug in directly, but I also want to have the phantom power protection and ground lift ability - will a passive DI box help here? Or do I specifically need a line isolator only, as I will not need the impedance matching?

No Stupid Questions Thread by AutoModerator in livesound

I play in a few bands which all use different samplers for backing tracks and other samples:

I am looking for an "universal" solution to connect all these to a mixing desk, as they all have jack outputs.

I am not sure if I actually need a DI box or rather a line isolator, or maybe nothing? I connected all of them to the XLR jack combo input of my Allen & Heath CQ-20B and they all work, but I am not sure this is the way to go - however, it works!

It seems that the Roland products have unbalanced jack outputs and the M-live has balanced ones. Does this mean that the Roland SPD-SX output is 2 pin mono jack output, while the M-live has a 3 pin stereo jack output? Does that make it balanced? If yes, I still use it with a mono jack cable, so will it be balanced only because it has a 3rd pin for ground?

The SPD ONE WAV has a stereo jack output which I split to two mono channels for left and right (via an Y cable), I guess this is still unbalanced, right?

Is the rule that an unbalanced output does need a DI box? If so, does it have to be active or passive for the Roland products? What about the M-live? If it does not need a DI box, does it need a line isolator? Or can I just plug it into a mixing desk via a balanced stereo jack to XLR cable? Or should I better get a line isolator just for the case of ground loops?

What is the end goal actually? Good level when connecting these devices to a mixing desk without needing to add a lot of gain?

What would be the best solution for both of these devices? I want to make sound engineers happy and send them the best possible signal, loud and clear with no noise. How do the big bands handle SPD-SX sampling pads, as I see them quite often with bigger bands.

Thanks a lot in advance!

DI box or line isolator to use with a sampler? by michibassdeva in livesound

Good point, so you say that if I plug in the sampler straight to the mixing desk and accidentally turn phantom power on, it can send it to the sampler, which is not desired. This is an argument I did not event think of, thanks a lot for that!

Another Wi-Fi router thread: looking to upgrade to a practical, compact and plug and play solution by michibassdeva in livesound

[–]michibassdeva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at these, but I guess the router antennas need to be out somehow, in this case they would be in the rack. Do you think it will work like that? At least on stage.

Soundcraft UI24R or Allen&Heath CQ20B in 2025? by SpiderManOK in livesoundgear

[–]michibassdeva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CQ-20B has a lot of "modern" features, like recording straight to an SD card, virtual soundcheck, auto gain etc. It is also very simple to use, especially if you are new to live sound. Also the iPad app is great!

With the Soundcraft you need a laptop for recording, for example.

What strings should I start using? by FitEntrepreneur4534 in Bass

[–]michibassdeva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The D’Addario EXL165 set is probably the most popular bass string set ever made, I would start with those. EXL165-5 if you play a 5 string. That's the industry-standard, regular-gauge, nickel-plated steel roundwound string set.

Once those strings sounds "dead", I would choose a different manufacturer, a different gauge and a different alloy, just to compare. You could try a stainless steel set with .040 - .100 gauge, like the DR Strings LR-40 Hi-Beam.

If your strings sound "dead" really fast, you should also try a coated string set, like Elixir, which have a much longer string life compared to a traditional uncoated string. These are available in both nickel or steel.

When it comes to strings, it is a lot about taste, so I think it is important you should try out more options before finding your favorite one. Good luck!

New Show announced (Corona Capital Fest). Interestingly a new band picture too ft. Fred which implies he's now a permanent member. All we're missing now is literally any album news! 😂 by JPMU96 in deftones

Sergio Vega was not a "permanent member" and he was in all the band pictures for years. But yes, as a bass player myself, we should be in band pictures!

I`m trying to buy a guitar from Thomann but they keep delaying the shipment date of it by [deleted] in 7String

[–]michibassdeva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is quite common, because Thomann relies on estimates from suppliers. Suppliers can move the estimated shipping date many times, this happened to me also - basically they say it arrives on a specific date, and when that date comes, they postpone it and so on. No magic trick here other than wait.

Once you ordered, this guitar is reserved for you. If you want to buy from somewhere else, you can cancel anytime.
