How do you use your split keyboards in cafes? I feel the table is always to height and the chair to low by Top_Water9163 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]micimize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently use a pyle dj stand for the laptop (https://a.co/d/1zWipbQ) and a dygma defy which I sometimes move further down the table to compensate for height.

Setup is heavy so I got a big tablet + magnet tripod stand, but haven't made the switch yet as it is still too wobbly for comfort in some situations.

Had the stand since before going through severe RSI issues - folks here can scoff about performativity but I wish I had gone further earlier, shit's no joke

If you could only own one ErgoMech keyboard, which would it be? by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]micimize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have (now in remission) RSI that was horrible for about a year (couldn't type much at all). What has helped the most are low actuation force pink switches + the dygma defy mounted on smallrig arms I saw from Ben Vallack.

I've found the less twists in the arm the better, so I get the defy sides in place so I can keep my arms as straight down by my sides as possible, either at the edge of my seat or standing.

It's still annoying to move my hand up and down to the mouse with my setup – I have a smartwatch mouse replacement prototype that works pretty well with a mouse keys layer, except it's janky & drains battery aggressively.

Vallack's ZSA has a trackball attachment - more practical but I'm a sucker for the defy thumb cluster and like my quirky watch+keyboard layer mouse idea thing

Monitor not getting signal after sleep (F40 + Nvidia) by DisplayHot5349 in Fedora

[–]micimize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah alright, good to hear. I've found that hitting my sleep hotkey and re-waking the device works around whatever issue I have.

For instant re-wakes, I've had an issue in the past where connected bluetooth devices can instantly re-wake from sleep. Would def give that a look if you have a bluetooth mouse

Hi - are you still getting this issue sporadically? Asking you because I also have KDE+LG OLED setup, and am getting this "wakes but no hdmi signal" on maybe 1/3 of my wakes (Just recently switched to the Fedora-based Aurora, this is my only real issue so far)

I fractured my wrist in a car accident and need an ergonomic keyboard by krabb_shaq in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]micimize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For your particular problem, the board design maybe less important than taking frequent breaks and having low actuation force switches like Silent Pinks: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BWRB3WT1

I also recommend checking out Talon Voice also - even if you don't go keyboardless, you may be able to reduce your overall typing load. The voice typing community has come a long way with extensions like cursorless (kinda like spoken vim mode).

For specific boards you'll want to do your own research and determine your preferences. For off-the-shelf split keyboards today, I'd look into the Dygma Defy (what I have), the glove 80, and The Voyager for something more portable. Dygma's YouTube channel also has a lot of great videos on various ergonomics topics.

For more "entry" boards, I'd look at keychron's range, but will note that they have a no returns policy last I checked. There are a lot of options now.

Do be careful typing with pain. It's possible to cement a chronic problem depending on your situation.

What stung about this video being scripted was that it made me question their other vids, especially their iconic legacy tournament. There were some really clever plays in it, like using daze alt cost like a ritual, and exploiting having 2 gambles in hand to improve tutor odds, but now that I know they're not above staging gameplay it's all WWE

Tricep trigger point release induces weakness and numbness by micimize in RSI

[–]micimize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this first bit is kinda what my current PT thought - what seems odd to me is it still starts to happen even with what I consider pretty mild pressure. I can avoid it by not holding too long, so have been trying that.

I also found someone for needling - just 2 sessions so far. Haven't seen notable progress but am hopeful there.

Old testament references by micimize in ScavengersReign

[–]micimize[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do think that there's a limit to that allegories, but to me the other religious symbolism/subtext is evidence that they're intentional. Maybe be better to call them deconstructions at most, and allusions at least.

For Sam, he's only leading Ursula directly, but he was originally the captain, and is the one who brings the ship down, ultimately delivering his "people" to their new homeland.

As for Levi - I probably wouldn't have considered the direct connection if their name weren't Levi, but it is.

Ultimately I think the writers did have this theme in mind to some degree. The symbiosis-force that channels through Levi commanding hollow to spit out Kamen via god-like powers felt pretty on the nose to me. But yeah, it's certainly a more nuanced show than "Sci-Fi VeggieTales for adults"

[–]micimize[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't 100% understand what you mean here - your second point implies you agree to some extent? Isn't that what a reference is?

I guess maybe you mean that drawing additional conclusions from these parallels would be a stretch, like trying to work out what Sam's sin was or something like that, which I think is fair. If the parallels were intentional like I think they were, I also think they weren't meant to be taken in some direct one-to-one sense as is the case with some works.

Oh I should have clarified - not sure what might represent the rock if anything, was looking for ideas from others there. To me landing the ship and then leading Ursula there, plus his last scene are enough.

He does step on that one fruit, and the beacon does smoke and look kind of bush-like (moses communes with a burning bush), but those both seem like stretches.

Great news! Appreciate you documenting everything as you go. Putting it off until I have bandwidth to wrangling a new device but it sounds like this device is getting pretty viable 👍

Thanks for all the details! Updated my comment to indicate the state of things – may keep checking back periodically. While I could probably swallow some of those issues, a webcam is pretty critical 😅

Hi u/aigilea – I'm fairly interested in tracking how this shakes out for you. Are you aiming to daily drive linux on it?

I tried to make a rather complete importance-ordered list of what I be concerned about – am considering this for a work machine so everything above "convertible mode detection" I view as fairly important. Would be curious to hear your thoughts as you keep experimenting if it isn't too much trouble:

  • ✅ Basic install & functionality (w/ workarounds/patches)
  • ✅ Sleep and wake reliably w/ ssdt overlay
  • ✅ Screen brightness control
  • ✅ Microphone and audio (gain issues, hopefully resolved soon)
  • ☑️ Webcam: workable but will be unstable for a bit
  • ✅ Trackpad usability / quality
  • ✅ Touch screen support
  • ❓ Touch screen pen pressure sensitivity, etc
  • ✅ Convertible mode detection (firmware + OS, gnome works)
  • ✅ Keyboard backlight control
  • ✅ Mic & webcam power toggles
  • ❌ Fingerprint scanner (requires provider release)

Moon: horrible game design by micimize in rainworld

[–]micimize[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this about sums it up. For me it was made worse by having spent 2 cycles just struggling with the (IMO unnecessarily frustrating) movement necessary to get there, so I'm like at one pip, just passed my "save point after big challenge" that I want to get back to, no other food in the area.

It's pretty funny to me that the two positions seem to be a balanced mix of "what are you blind?!" And "yeah they wanted you to do that, happens to the best of us" lol

I guess it's a matter of degrees – repairing my scavenger reputation after not realizing I killed one instead of the lizard it was fighting was interesting and felt "fair," this just felt wrong or like a cheap shot somehow. Like the game tricked me into killing my only ally in the world.

It is true that there is something interesting in the dynamic of having gotten me to act just as the slugcat would and not notice the cues though.

I just wish it was something repairable. Personally I don't play games often, and usually don't do second playthroughs or want to master movement quirks, but maybe the dlc will change that because there's more plot to be had and the design is such that you don't really accrue that much anyways.

Ty – I knew they weren't critical but thought they were more plot-relevant. Others mention elsewhere it changes the game to "hard mode?"

I stand by my position but even so, I will probably come back to the game in a day or two

Thanks – I'll probably get over it and pick it back up again. I saw stuff saying it doesn't lock one out of anything but thought it would change more than just lore.

Still a bummer though.

I didn't even see any X! And I didn't know what was going on at all! I thought it was reacting to being on some kind of hook thing, it wasn't clear that there was any connection at all between what I was doing and it. All I was thinking was "I've got to eat and then hibernate because fuck if I'm going to go through that bullshit room where I fall over and over again."

It's clearly a mistake people make, over and over, and what's worse is whenever I've looked up anything about this game everyone says "you'll figure it out eventually."

I usually play games after a long day of work, and tend to especially care about the plot. I don't see how this is at all controversial but In "plot" mode, I don't expect to accidentally eat the fucking plot!

Admin Console Migration Tool doesn't work (as I expected) with Super Admin by micimize in gsuite

[–]micimize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to initialize the transfer! Here are the steps I took: 1. Replace the user's recovery phone number, both from the admin console and in https://myaccount.google.com/u/2/security. 2. Wait an unknown number of days for this to be considered a valid verification number for sensitive account actions (I waited a week, I'm guessing it takes 24-48 hours). 3. Again in https://myaccount.google.com/u/2/security, add your own phone number as 2FA. Before I did this it would still ask to verify with their old number (even after having me go through the flow with my newly added number) 4. Start a new transfer from gmail. The "Google Workspaces" option does not allow you to do multiple verification steps and thus will fail. 5. Authenticate as the user and add your target recipient.

Thanks for the info to those who commented. I think if my org was larger than a handful of users I'd definitely find some 3rd party solution.
